Job summary

HDR, an employee-owned company, is hiring a Bridge Engineer to join our Ontario team. You will apply structural analysis and detailed design for bridges and related structures, collaborate with CAD/BIM staff, and prepare construction specifications with senior guidance.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred), a PE/P.Eng license, and 3+ years in bridge design, with proficiency in major design software and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required; PE license required.
• 3+ years in bridge design with calculations and plan development.
• Experience with design, cost estimating, and specification development.
• Ability to prepare engineering and technical proposals and reports.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures.
• Prepare design documentation under guidance; review EIT work as appropriate.
• Contribute to construction specs and tender docs as part of a project team.
• Assist in project management of tasks to ensure schedule, budget and quality.
• Participate in client meetings to present work and coordinate design issues.
• Support proposal preparation for bridge design projects.

HDR is looking for an Bridge Engineer to join our team of professionals in Ontario. The primary responsibilities include:

• Applying structural analysis and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures.
• Perform calculations and prepare design documentation under the guidance of senior engineers; review the work of EITs as appropriate.
• Support quality control activities by participating in independent reviews and checks of structural designs.
• Collaborate with CAD and BIM staff to support drawing production and provide necessary design information.
• Contribute to the preparation of construction specifications and tender documentation as part of a project team.
• Assist in managing project tasks or work packages to help ensure delivery on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Participate in meetings with clients to present work, discuss design issues, and support project coordination efforts under the direction of senior staff.
• Support the proposal preparation process for bridge design projects as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
• A minimum of 3 years experience in bridge design including design calculations, plan development, specification development, and cost estimating.
• Experience with the analysis and design of new bridges and civil structures, and rehabilitation of existing structures.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering reports, condition assessment reports, design reports, presentations, technical proposals and specifications.
• Experience in project management for small to medium sized projects.
• Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Previous experience in bridge design
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
• Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete Design
• Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software
• Experience managing junior staff
• Excellent communication skills and working in a team environment
