Job description

Amsterdam Brewing Company has been part of the Toronto community since 1986. It’s a combination of good people, good ideas, and good beer that continues to shape who we are today.

The Brewing Manager is a key leadership role within our production team, reporting to the Production Manager. This role oversees all aspects of the brewing process, ensuring uncompromising beer quality, strong operational discipline, and a safe, sustainable pace of work.

As Brewing Manager, you’ll lead and develop the brewing team—setting clear standards, stabilizing processes, and fostering a culture of accountability, pride, and continuous improvement. Success in this role requires deep technical brewing expertise, confident people leadership, and the ability to step into the role with clarity, earn credibility on the floor, and lead through consistent execution.

This posting reflects an existing vacancy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the end-to-end brewing process, ensuring consistent adherence to quality standards.
  • Act as the first point of escalation for brewing and production issues, troubleshooting deviations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Plan and coordinate brewing schedules to meet production targets while maximizing efficiency and resource utilization.
  • Maintain strict adherence to beer quality, food safety, GMP, and sanitation standards — standards do not bend.
  • Conduct regular tastings and quality assessments; partner with Quality team as required to evaluate beer and raw material quality.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the brewing team, setting clear expectations and providing ongoing feedback, training, and mentorship.
  • Manage change in a manner that is directive, steady, and inspiring, bringing people along while holding firm on quality, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance brewing processes, efficiency, and product quality.
  • Set and maintain a sustainable production pace that prioritizes employee safety and operational consistency.
  • Manage brewing-related budgets, production costs, and equipment maintenance planning; report against established KPIs and **escalate** risks or deviations.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with raw material suppliers, packaging suppliers, and equipment vendors.
  • Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, HACCP, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations, corrective actions, and ongoing safety training, and promote a respectful, harassment-free work environment.
  • Role-model doing the right thing for the product, the process, and the people — even when it is difficult.
Qualifications
  • A passion for beer!
  • Degree or diploma in Brewing, Food Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; formal brewing certification strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience managing brewery production operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, enforce high standards, and drive continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical brewing knowledge with a proven commitment to beer quality and process discipline.
  • Experience managing change in complex or high-pressure operational settings.
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Mechanical aptitude considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead with confidence.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts; occasional weekend/evening work as required.
  • Physically able to work in a production environment, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs when required.
