Job summary

Big Rock Brewery Inc. in Calgary is seeking a Lab Technician to join our Food Safety Quality Assurance team. You will perform sampling and analyses of raw materials, packaging, and finished beer, ensuring products meet quality and food safety specs.

You will handle routine testing, maintain equipment, and contribute to GMP, HACCP programs. The role involves working with lab instrumentation, participating in sensory panels, and reporting results to supervisors.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of the first phase of a Chemical Laboratory Technology program or a Bachelor’s degree in a food science discipline.
• 2+ years of brewery or food & beverage production quality lab experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to work in fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab instruments (UV-spectrophotometers, pH meters, etc.).
• Safely handle and dispose of chemicals and interpret MSDS documents.
• Prepare media and samples for microbiological analysis; collect sterile samples.
• Perform physical product testing and can seam checks; assist in CO2 testing.
• Develop and review procedures; ensure GMP/HACCP compliance across production areas; contribute to reporting and sensory panels.
