Job summary

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a heavy metal fabrication environment.
  • Proven experience operating hydraulic brake presses, plate rolls, and plate shears.
  • Experience working with heavy plate, structural steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials.
  • Experience operating overhead bridge cranes is considered an asset.
  • Valid forklift certification is considered an asset.
  • Level II First Aid certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate hydraulic brake presses, plate rolls, plate shears, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Perform layout, bending, rolling, and forming of carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and other heavy plate materials, including material 1 inch thick and greater.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and fabrication specifications.
  • Select appropriate tooling and machine settings based on material type, thickness, and job requirements.
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure products meet quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material handling equipment as required.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company policies, safe work procedures, and WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

As a Brake Press / Roll Operator, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, setting up and operating different types of heavy metal fabrication shop machines, including; plate shears and rolls as well as hydraulic brake presses. You will work on the layout work and the forming (Forming and rolling steel and alloy material 1” thick and thicker) and different types of metal plate with all shapes and sizes in accordance with customer specifications.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge and familiarity with welding procedures and quality control requirements is essential.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and work to blueprint specifications.
  • Knowledge in the working qualities of metal.
  • Must also be familiar with Manufacturing & Inspection plans.
  • Knowledge and experience in the set up and operation of different types of heavy metal fabrication shop machines, including plate shears and rolls as well as hydraulic brake presses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing and speaking).
Working Conditions
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts in a noisy environment.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Fast paced environment with priorities that often change to meet current problems.
  • Over time and some weekend work might be required.

We offer competitive wages ($42.01-$45.06 /hr) and comprehensive benefits. Remuneration and benefits plan as per Ebco and Ironworker's Local 712 Collective Agreement.
