Job Title: Brake Press Operator
Job Description

This role focuses on operating Salvagnini brake press machinery on the afternoon shift, handling setup, production, and basic maintenance from start to finish on the line. You ensure parts meet engineering specifications, maintain accurate production documentation, and actively support safety and continuous improvement initiatives in a busy metal fabrication environment.

Responsibilities
  • Operate Salvagnini automated bending and forming equipment in accordance with production requirements, including setting up, running, and monitoring the machinery throughout the shift.
  • Set up the B3 Salvagnini brake press by scanning barcodes so the appropriate program loads with correct bend heights, adjusting tonnage as required for each job.
  • Perform scheduled machine breakdowns and changeovers according to maintenance and production schedules to keep the line running efficiently.
  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance, including lubrication, minor repairs, and basic troubleshooting to maintain optimal machine performance.
  • Verify part dimensions and quality by measuring finished components to ensure they meet engineering drawings, prints, and specified tolerances.
  • Report any variances or discrepancies between produced parts and prints to the team leader promptly so corrective actions can be taken.
  • Maintain accurate and timely production documentation, including logs, quality records, and other required paperwork.
  • Remove slugs, scrap, and debris from the work area and equipment to prevent marking or damaging remaining stock and to maintain a clean, safe workspace.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality on the line.
  • Assist with related tasks as required by supervisors or team leads to support overall production goals and team performance.
  • Work collaboratively with the line team, including the lead hand, and take responsibility for the process from start to finish on the assigned line.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1.5 years of experience working with a B3 Salvagnini machine or a minimum of 3 years operating a manual brake press in the metal industry.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Strong quality inspection skills, including proficient use of calipers and measuring tape.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds or more as part of daily duties.
  • Capability to perform routine machine maintenance, including lubrication and minor repairs.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in measuring parts and completing documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to work afternoon shift hours.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with manual brake press operations, particularly B3 models, is an asset.
  • Previous experience operating Salvagnini machinery is considered a strong advantage.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and process‑related issues.
  • Openness to cross‑training and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Why Work Here?

You join a supportive production team that values safety, quality, and collaboration, with structured training to help you succeed in the role. The organization offers comprehensive health and dental coverage, performance‑based bonus opportunities, and a yearly work boot allowance. A positive, team‑oriented culture is reinforced through regular appreciation events such as free lunches on long weekends and BBQs on summer holidays, contributing to a strong sense of camaraderie and work‑life balance.

Work Environment

This is an afternoon shift role, working from approximately 3:30 p.m. to midnight in a busy metal fabrication facility. Initial training takes place on the day shift for about one month, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., to ensure familiarity with the equipment and processes. The production line consists of four people plus a lead hand, and the operator is responsible for the process from start to finish on the line. The day shift has around 80 people on the floor, while the afternoon shift has about 35, providing a dynamic but manageable environment.
