Job summary

Bowline Health in Red Deer, AB is seeking a compassionate Recovery Coach to join the Red Deer Support Centre. This onsite role focuses on rapid assessments, immediate referrals, and empowering participants through recovery and connection to housing, treatment, medical, and social services.

You will advocate for participants, utilize motivational interviewing, and document interactions with confidentiality. A strong preference is given to those with peer recovery training and lived recovery

Qualifications

• Completion of a Recovery Coach, Peer Recovery Support Specialist, or equivalent peer training (strongly preferred).
• 1–2 years of experience in peer support, outreach, crisis work, or social services; lived recovery is a significant asset.
• Deep understanding of substance use, homelessness, and needs of marginalized populations.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate community resources and service systems effectively.
• Strong interpersonal communication, including active listening and non-judgmental engagement.
• Minimum two years of sustained recovery; must be able to pass random drug and alcohol screening.
• Proven ability to de-escalate crises and respond in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

With in-person and virtual care options, we ensure that participants receive appropriate recovery support without unnecessary delays. We are seeking a compassionate and resourceful Recovery Coach to join our team at the Red Deer Support Centre, a frontline setting where individuals facing urgent and complex life challenges seek immediate support. This role is grounded in rapid-response resource connection, with elements of coaching and motivational support embedded in participant care.

Reporting to the Recovery Coach Lead, the Recovery Coach is a critical first point of contact for individuals facing substance use, homelessness, or other urgent challenges. The Recovery Coach builds trust quickly, assesses participant needs in real time, and connects them to appropriate services and resources without delay.

Key Responsibilities:

Resource Navigation

• Provide frontline recovery coaching support within the support centre.

Conditions of Employment

• Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to initiating employment and annually thereafter.
