The Pod Group is partnering with a not-for-profit organization to hire a competent Bookkeeper in Mississauga. You will manage accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger tasks while ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies.

This hands-on role requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle high‑volume, fluctuating workload. Reporting to Finance leadership, you will support monthly closings, generate reports, and maintain secure electronic filing.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in Finance/Accounting.
  • Diploma or Certificate in Accounting or related field.
  • Working knowledge of accounting standards and processes.
  • Experience in not-for-profit accounting environment.
  • Trustworthy with confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable following GAAP for not-for-profit operations.
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries, recurring entries, accruals, and allocate prepaid expenses.
  • Generate reports for internal/external users and reconcile balance sheet and income statements.
  • Ensure proper authorization and documentation for invoices; manage petty cash and credit cards controls.
  • Perform banking duties, deposits, EFT payments, and monthly reconciliations of taxi/bus/donations in GL.

The Pod Group is partnering with this amazing organization to place a resourceful, hands-on, and organized individual to fulfill the role of Bookkeeper.

WHY YOUR ROLE MATTERS

We are partnering with our client in search of a highly enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and organized Bookkeeper. Reporting to Finance leadership, this role will perform duties related to accounts payable and payroll, while ensuring financial information, records, administrative functions, and day-to-day requirements are accurate and current. This is accomplished by providing accurate, timely, and responsive completion of financial tasks for the agency. This will ensure smooth and efficient financial operations aligning to meet the agency's operational goals and compliance with internal financial and accounting policies.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Financial Administrative Duties
  • Timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, and accounts receivable following GAAP Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and applying them in a not-for-profit organization.
  • Prepare general ledger transactions:
    • journal entries,
    • recurring entries,
    • accruals,
    • allocation of prepaid expenses
  • Generate reports for internal and external users as required.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reconciliation of balance sheet and income statement analysis to ensure accuracy of the accounts.
  • Verify authorization and obtain supporting documentation before processing invoices.
  • Ensure credit cards and petty cash adhere to necessary internal controls.
  • Review accounting transactions for data accuracy.
  • Maintain an electronic filing structure, create folders, and files appropriately, and ensure that documents are stored securely.
  • Perform banking functions, including deposits and EFT payments.
  • Monthly reconciliation of bus tickets, gift cards, and donations in Canada Helps to GL.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Payroll Duties
  • Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data;
  • Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, saving deductions, job title, and department transfers;
  • Terminate employees and prepare ROE in ADP;
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability and non-taxable wages;
  • Review and balance payroll data along with ADP reports for accuracy;
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information;
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests;
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures, and reporting changes as required.
  • Other duties as assigned, such as agency special projects as assigned annually by Finance leadership.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Finance/Accounting.
  • Diploma/Certificate in Accounting or related.
  • Working knowledge of overall accounting standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Understanding of accounting functions in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated a high level of trust, integrity, and work ethic.
  • Proficient in the use of Sage 50 Premium.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent ability to prioritize daily work to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and organize a high-volume, fluctuating workload.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate information effectively and provide appropriate recommendations or feedback.
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work.

Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000 CAD Annually
