LaBarge Weinstein LLP is seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper to join our Finance and Accounting team. This role is well suited to an experienced accounting professional who can independently manage core bookkeeping and accounting processes, identify and resolve discrepancies, and contribute to accurate and timely financial reporting.

The successful candidate will bring sound accounting judgment and a service-oriented approach, while remaining comfortable with the full range of work required in a busy finance function—from reconciliations, month-end schedules and trust transactions to invoice processing, data entry, filing and follow-up. No task is considered too routine when it supports the accuracy, responsiveness and overall success of the team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities for the partnership and its related entities, ensuring transactions are complete, accurate and recorded on a timely basis.
  • Process supplier invoices, employee expense claims, accounts payable entries and approved payments, including cheques, EFTs and wires.
  • Record and allocate incoming receipts, client disbursements and other transactions across general and trust accounts.
  • Prepare and process general and trust account transactions in accordance with internal controls and applicable Law Society of Ontario requirements.
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, supplier and balance sheet reconciliations; investigate variances and follow items through to resolution.
  • Prepare month-end working papers, schedules and journal entries, and assist with the timely completion of the month-end and year-end close.
  • Assist with government filings, remittances and supporting schedules, including HST and other statutory requirements, as assigned.
  • Provide billing support, including invoice adjustments, discounts, write-offs and other corrections requested by authorized firm personnel.
  • Maintain accurate, organized and audit-ready accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to questions from lawyers, staff, suppliers, banks and other stakeholders regarding invoices, payments and accounting matters.
  • Review existing processes, identify practical improvements and help strengthen documentation, consistency and internal controls.
  • Provide coverage and support across the Finance and Accounting team, including routine processing, data entry, filing and other administrative accounting tasks as priorities require.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Approximately 4–7 years of progressive bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally in a law firm, professional services environment or other multi-entity organization.
  • Strong understanding of the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, receipts, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals and month-end close.Demonstrated ability to independently investigate discrepancies, exercise judgment and take ownership of work through completion.
  • Experience with trust accounting and Law Society of Ontario bookkeeping requirements is a strong asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks; PCLaw or other legal accounting software experience is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting matters clearly and work effectively with both financial and non-financial colleagues.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Reliable and accurate: delivers high-quality work, meets deadlines and understands the importance of details.
  • Hands-on and adaptable: moves comfortably between complex reconciliations and routine transactional work without losing momentum or care.
  • Collaborative and service-minded: communicates respectfully, responds promptly and builds positive working relationships across the firm.
  • Accountable and proactive: follows up, raises issues early, proposes practical solutions and sees tasks through to completion.
  • Organized under pressure: prioritizes effectively, manages competing deadlines and remains calm and constructive during busy periods.
