Job summary

Good Shepherd is seeking dedicated individuals for its Boards of Directors in Hamilton and Toronto. This is an opportunity to lead change and promote social justice within the community. Candidates with diverse backgrounds, especially those with lived experience of homelessness, are encouraged to apply. Board members will participate in governance and oversight of vital community services.

• Familiarity with social media, legal, construction/development, or mental health sector.

We serve the most vulnerable members of our communities through a range of vital programs, including emergency food services, transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth, hospice palliative care, community mental health supports, and long-term supportive housing. All of these with a deep commitment to Harm Reduction practices.

Good Shepherd is currently inviting applications for positions on our Boards of Directors, from Toronto or the Niagara area. We are looking for individuals who bring leadership, professional expertise, innovative thinking, and a commitment to social justice to help guide our agencies. As part of our commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility, our goal is a governance structure that reflects the communities we serve. We especially invite individuals with disabilities, those who identify as Black, Indigenous or persons of colour, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, or those with lived experience with homelessness/risk of homelessness to apply.

Boards Overview

There are two boards: one principally overseeing services and another focused on shelters and property. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or expertise in the following areas:

• Lived experience with homelessness
• Social media
• Legal
• Construction/Development
• Mental health sector

If you have experience in other areas, we would love to hear from you.

Commitment

• Commit to a minimum of 3 years (maximum three 3-year terms).
• Attend the Annual Members Meeting (held in Hamilton).
• Participate in Board and Committee meetings, which are held every 2 months in a hybrid format (in-person and/or virtual). No meetings are held in December, July, and August.
