The Opportunity

The BMOC Marine Terminal Operator is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and reliable day-to-day operation of the Bridgemans Marine Operations Centre at Commissioner Street.

The position works as the cross-shift counterpart to the existing BMOC Marine Superintendent/Lead and provides operational continuity across provisioning, effluent transfer, vessel support, material handling, waste management, site maintenance and marine logistics activities.

The role is intended to ensure that BMOC maintains trained operational coverage throughout the week and provides appropriate overlap during high-activity periods.

Key Responsibilities
Terminal Operations
  • Receive, load, unload, stage and move vessel stores, food, laundry, equipment and other materials.
  • Support scheduled vessel provisioning activities, including early-morning supply movements.
  • Support Bridgemans vessel calls, including sewage discharge, fresh-water supply, cleaning, stores and dock services.
  • Provide general dock support for Bridgemans small-vessel operations.
  • Maintain safe and orderly docks, storage areas, workspaces and terminal operating areas.
  • Coordinate operational requirements with vessel crews, suppliers, contractors and other Bridgemans personnel.
Effluent Operations
  • Support floatel and vessel effluent-transfer operations at BMOC.
  • Assist with hose connections, disconnections and line handling.
  • Monitor transfer activities in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Maintain required transfer records and operational logs.
  • Monitor for leaks, spills, abnormal conditions or equipment issues and elevate as required.
  • Participate in spill-prevention and spill-response activities.
Material Handling
  • Operate forklifts, skid steers and other authorized material-handling equipment.
  • Complete required pre-use inspections and report equipment deficiencies.
  • Safely load, unload, stage and relocate cargo, containers, waste receptacles and operational equipment.
  • Maintain material-handling areas in a safe and organized condition.
Waste Management
  • Support BMOC solid-waste handling and consolidated floatel waste operations.
  • Receive pre-sorted waste from vessels and transfer waste to designated containers or vendor equipment.
  • Manage waste totes, bins and storage areas in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate with waste-service providers for collection and removal.
  • Complete required waste manifests, records and MARPOL-related documentation where applicable.
  • Identify and elevate improperly segregated, hazardous or special waste.
Vessel and Marine Support
  • Provide line handling and dockside assistance during vessel arrivals and departures.
  • Support vessel freshwater supply, stores movements and other shoreside services.
  • Assist vessel crews with shore-based logistics as required.
  • Maintain clear and safe vessel access routes, dock areas and working surfaces.
  • Coordinate urgent marine supplies, parts and operational requirements with the appropriate Bridgemans personnel.
Maintenance and Site Upkeep
  • Conduct routine inspections of BMOC equipment, docks and operating areas.
  • Identify maintenance deficiencies and coordinate or assist with repairs as directed.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs within the employee's competency.
  • Coordinate external technicians or contractors when specialized repairs are required.
  • Support site upgrades and improvement projects.
  • Maintain good housekeeping throughout the facility.
Inventory and Procurement Support
  • Monitor operational consumables, spare parts and site inventory.
  • Identify replenishment requirements and communicate purchasing needs.
  • Assist with purchase requisitions, purchase orders and receiving documentation as required.
  • Verify deliveries and maintain appropriate inventory records.
  • Support cost control through accurate documentation and responsible use of company resources.
HSSE and Regulatory Compliance
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Bridgemans Health, Safety, Security and Environmental requirements.
  • Follow BMOC operating procedures, hazard assessments, emergency-response procedures and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, inspections, drills and safety training.
  • Maintain competence in spill response, line handling, dock safety and BMOC emergency procedures.
  • Immediately report hazards, near misses, incidents, spills and unsafe conditions.
  • Stop work where conditions present an unacceptable risk to personnel, the environment, vessels or company property.
  • Ensure contractors and visitors comply with applicable BMOC site requirements when working within the employee's area of responsibility.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate daily operational records and logs.
  • Complete equipment inspection records and required checklists.
  • Record provisioning, effluent, waste, vessel-support and material-handling activities.
  • Maintain waste and environmental documentation as required.
  • Participate in shift handovers and communicate outstanding operational issues to the incoming shift and management.
  • Support operational reporting and documentation required by Marine Operations and HSE.

The position operates as part of a cross-trained BMOC coverage model. The employee is expected to:

  • Maintain effective communication with the BMOC Marine Superintendent/Lead and other shore personnel.
  • Complete clear handovers identifying outstanding work, vessel movements, scheduled deliveries, equipment status, safety concerns and upcoming operational requirements.
  • Be capable of independently performing core BMOC functions when the other primary operator is absent.
  • Provide vacation, illness, training and operational relief within the established scheduling model.
  • Support additional overlap during high-volume provisioning, effluent-transfer and waste-handling periods.
