Job summary

Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for the Black Student Ambassador, a part-time student role reporting to the Advisor, Anti-Racism & Anti-Oppression in the Office of Equity and Inclusive Communities. The ambassador engages Black students, strengthens networks, and supports OEIC programs through outreach and peer support.

You will help plan events, create communications, and gather feedback, while working both independently and with peers to foster an inclusive campus

Qualifications

  • Current student in good academic standing
  • A major or minor in Sociology, Political Science, English, Creative Writing, Social Justice, and other relevant fields is desired
  • Lived experience as an individual who identifies as Black, African, of African descent, or of mixed heritage
  • Demonstrated interest in and basic understanding of anti‑racism (especially anti‑Black racism), anti‑oppression, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge of Black student communities and experiences in post‑secondary settings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across diverse communities
  • Experience in student leadership, community engagement, or event coordination is an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience using MS Office and social media platforms
  • A professional, positive, and respectful attitude with a willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a visible and approachable peer ambassador for Black students
  • Build relationships with Black student groups and support the development of a connected Black student network at KPU
  • Provide peer-to-peer support by connecting students to relevant campus services, resources, and supports through outreach activities and tabling
  • Assist in developing communications and promotional materials, including emails, reports, social media content, and posters for OEIC programs and events
  • Support the planning and delivery of events, workshops, and anti-racism initiatives focused on Black student engagement
  • Support research on Black student experiences and communities to help inform OEIC programs and services
  • Assist with gathering student feedback and amplifying student voice through surveys, participation tracking, and record‑keeping

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This role reports to the Advisor, Anti-Racism & Anti-Oppression, in the Office of Equity and Inclusive Communities.

SUMMARY

The Black Student Ambassador is a part-time student position focused on supporting Black student engagement, community-building, and outreach initiatives across campus. The Ambassador will help foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for Black students by assisting with events, student engagement activities, communications, and peer support initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is reserved for KPU Students only.
SALARY INFORMATION

Student Assistants are paid as per the following:

  • Less than one year of post‑secondary (less than 30 credits) – BC Minimum Wage
  • One year of post‑secondary (30-60 credits) – BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
  • With a post‑secondary diploma or degree – BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
