Job summary

ATCO Electric in Edmonton, AB is seeking a Billing Analyst for an 18-month contract to ensure accurate and timely customer bills. You will review, investigate and resolve billing exceptions, update data across the billing system, and work with the Utility Billing Specialist to fulfill internal and external requests.

The role requires a degree or diploma in a related field, 2+ years in utility billing, and strong data analysis skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or diploma in Business Admin, IT, Computing or Accounting; relevant experience considered.
• Minimum 2 years’ related experience, preferably in utility billing.
• Familiarity with Oracle CCS/C2M/CC&B assets.
• Knowledge of Alberta utility rules and deregulated energy market.
• Experience in complex IT environments and utility IT systems.
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Review and resolve billing exceptions to ensure accurate customer bills.
• Update customer/site/account data in billing system with high accuracy.
• Add and validate rate schedules for new/upgraded services.
• Create Site IDs for new services.
• Process end billing on salvaged sites with manual corrections.
• Handle complex rate calculations and QA tasks.
• Investigate historical consumption and perform manual billing corrections.
• Address mixed meter issues and billing adjustments.
• Identify and escalate billing system issues with other utilities interfaces.
• Support internal teams with end-to-end billing processes and tariffs.
• Recommend improvements to billing processes and configurations.
• Execute User Acceptance Testing scripts and explain variances.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Billing Operations, the Billing Analyst performs a critical role in ensuring our customers’ bills are accurate and timely by reviewing, investigating and resolving exceptions which prevent a customer’s account from billing. This role accurately updates a variety of customer, account and site data in the billing system, and works closely with the Utility Billing Specialist to complete requests from internal teams and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do:

• Resolve assigned To Dos for usage and billing exceptions that prevent accounts from billing accurately or on time by following business processes and procedures. Exceptions span the entire utility meter to cash process, from meter data collection, usage and billing calculations, tariff billing and market transactions.
• Update and correct a wide variety of customer, site and account information in the billing system as required with a high level of accuracy and quality.
• Add and validate rate schedules for new and upgraded services.
• Execute the Site ID creation process for new services.
• Execute the process to end billing on salvaged sites including manual corrections and issuing field orders.
• Execute manual billing processes for complex rates including quality assurance tasks.
• Investigate situations that require review of historical consumption beyond the history stored in the billing system, resolve errors and complete manual calculations and billing corrections.
• Correct mixed meter situations including validating geographic data and completing billing adjustments for affected accounts.
• Identify, investigate and investigate and escalation issues where the billing system or interfaces to other utility systems are not behaving as expected.
• Support the investigation, analysis and quantify the scope and scale of billing issues.
• Respond to requests for assistance from internal work groups who require guidance on billing processes from end to end, tariffs or market transactions.
• Make recommendations to improve customer care and billing processes and system configurations to improve efficiency and customer service.
• Execute User Acceptance Testing test scripts and determine if actual results meet the expected results. Attempt to explain any difference between actual and expected results, and if necessary, elevate any unexplainable discrepancies.

What You’ll Bring:

• University Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in a related discipline (Business Administration, Information Technology, Computing Science, Accounting). Relevant experience will be considered.
• Minimum 2 years’ related experience, preferably in a utility customer service and billing role. Experience with back-office business processes in a vertically integrated utility asset.
• Familiarity with Oracle CCS, Oracle Customer to Meter (C2M) or Oracle Customer Care & Billing (CC&B) asset.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Alberta Utilities Commission Rules and Codes governing distribution utilities in Alberta.
• Demonstrated understanding of the electric utility industry and relevant regulatory requirements, including market rules, tariff billing, and Alberta’s deregulated energy market.
• Experience working within complex IT environments and Utility IT systems.
• Proven ability to analyze and interpret data
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to take initiative and work independently.
• Strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
