Job summary

Rocky Mountain School District No. 6 is seeking a Casual Library Technician for the Windermere Zone.

The role involves handling cataloguing, circulation, budgeting, supervision of volunteers and student assistants, and providing reference support to staff and students within a school library setting. Under the direction of the Administrative Officer and/or Librarian, the technician will assist with displays, audiovisual maintenance, and maintaining catalogues in English and French.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent with Library Technician Certificate.
• Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and Sears subject headings.
• Experience in a school setting preferred.
• Ability to use computers to perform library tasks.
• Self-starting with ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Able to work with and relate to children and professional staff.
• Working knowledge of the French language.
• Audiovisual training or experience would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Receive, catalogue and process resources in English and French as appropriate.
• Maintain collection and circulation procedures on a day-to-day basis.
• Maintain the card catalogue in traditional or electronic format.
• Prepare and monitor overdue lists using a database program.
• Prepare orders and maintain library budget records; follow district procedures for purchases.
• Supervise students and volunteers in the library during class and noon hours.
• Prepare displays and gather materials to support the teacher-librarian.
• Maintain AV equipment lists and provide AV maintenance assistance.
• Provide reference services to staff and students.
• Perform other related duties as required.
