Job summary

Bunzl Canada is seeking an HR Generalist to act as a strategic partner across Canadian segments, advising on employee relations, talent management, compliance and organizational development. The role requires a Bachelor’s in HR or related field, 5+ years’ progressive HR experience, and fluency in English and French.

The position includes responsibilities from employee relations and leaves to talent management, compliance, and organizational development, with a focus on multi-site coordination

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CPHR) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and issues.
  • Manage and resolve employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions.
  • Conduct investigations and provide recommendations on employee grievances and complaints.
  • Manage disability cases with our external consultants and Insurance provider.
  • Collaborate with management to identify staffing needs and support recruitment strategies.
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a positive employee experience.
  • Support performance management processes, including reviews, goal setting, and development plans.
  • Partner with HR Ops to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Support initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness, including engagement and development programs.
  • Participate in HR projects and provide guidance on best practices and trends.

Job description

The HR Generalist, will serve as a strategic partner to multiple segments within the Canadian business, providing expert advice and support on a wide range of day-to-day operational functions, including employee relations, talent management, compliance, and organizational development. This incumbent will possess an understanding of HR best practices, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage complex HR issues.

Salary: $80,000 CAD per year- Salary commensurate with experience

Responsibilities
Employee Relations and Employee Leaves
  • Act as the first point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and issues within their segments.
  • Manage and resolve employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions.
  • Conduct investigations and provide recommendations on employee grievances and complaints.
  • Manage disability cases with our external consultants and Insurance provider
Talent Management
  • Collaborate with management to identify staffing needs and partner with the Talent Acquisition team to support effective recruitment strategies.
  • Oversee the onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a positive employee experience.
  • Collaborate with management on high potential employee development plans
  • Support performance management processes, including performance reviews, goal setting, and development plans.
Compliance
  • Partner with HR Ops to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Organizational Development
  • Support initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness, including employee engagement and development programs.
  • Collaborate with management to implement change management strategies and foster a positive workplace culture.
HR Projects
  • Participate in various HR projects and initiatives, such as Manager development resources, diversity and inclusion programs, HR program continuous improvement.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on HR best practices and emerging trends.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field. HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CPHR) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, including experience in a generalist HR role working in a multi-site and multi-provincial organization
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of HR principles, Canadian employment laws, and best practices. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Language Requirement: Fluently bilingual both written and oral – English/French
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
