Responsibilities
- Candidates must be fluent in French and English.
- Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
- Responsible for portion control of food items.
- Responsible for safety precautions in assigned area. Report unsafe incidents or safety concerns to management, including defective machinery or equipment in order to safeguard staff from accidents and harm. Follow established safety precautions and procedures.
- Responsible for safe operation of equipment including documenting pot wash, dish machine, refrigerators and freezer temperatures, and appropriate follow-up as necessary.
- Delivery of catering to assigned locations throughout the hospital, including pick-up of dirty dishes for ware washing.
- Observe time limits for meal serving. Maintain foods at proper serving temperature.
- Assist Cooks to clean and prepare uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables, and fruits. Follow basic instructions in preparing such simple foods as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
- Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwasher. Clean pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
- Prep Cooks assist Cooks with daily detailed Prep List.
- Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.
- Responsible for checking and documenting temperatures and/or taste of items being prepared and/or served, according to pre-established guidelines and procedures, including HACCP (hazardous analysis critical control point). Initiate and complete necessary corrective action for unsatisfactory temperature/quality of food and ensure appropriate documentation, rotating stock and monitoring expiry dates of food and products. Ensure that only products with the highest integrity are used.
- Responsible for proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and individual work areas.
- Set up for catering events, linens, chair covers, equipment, place settings, utensils, chafing dishes, flowers, and any other customer-specific requests.
- Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety, environment, and infection control.
- Assemble nourishment carts. Stock unit kitchenettes.
- Participate in facility meetings as assigned. Attend in-service education programs.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements
- Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act required.
- Must have Food Handlers Certification approved by Public Health Department.
- Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
- Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
- Experience working in a kitchen or food service setting.
