The Client:
Our client is a leading Canadian Life Insurance Company that operates in the life insurance and financial services sector. They offer a range of insurance products, including life insurance, critical illness insurance, and disability insurance.
What You Will Achieve in This Role:
The Bilingual Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing weekly indemnity and long-term disability claims by applying established best practices in disability management. This includes evaluating claims, managing related costs, and mitigating risk within designated authority limits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and determine eligibility for initial and ongoing disability claims by reviewing medical documentation, job duties, contractual terms, and non-medical factors, in alignment with departmental and industry protocols.
- Proactively manage the duration of active claims using established disability management best practices.
- Conduct telephone interviews with claimants and employers to gather relevant information.
- Maintain clear, timely, and proactive communication with all stakeholders regarding claim status and updates, following departmental service standards.
- Develop and execute detailed case management plans for each claim, focusing on a safe, timely, and sustainable return to work; coordinate with treating physicians and employers, and arrange independent medical assessments or third-party services when appropriate.
- Partner with internal return-to-work specialists to create and oversee individualized return-to-work programs.
- Collaborate regularly with team members to exchange insights, share information, and develop solutions for complex claim scenarios.
- Ensure files are resolved effectively, with outcomes that are timely, appropriate, and aligned with both claimant needs and organizational goals.
What You Must Bring to This Role:
- Fluency in both English and French (spoken and written) is essential.
- 3+ years of experience in disability claims management.
- Strong understanding of disability management practices, insurance products, and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial employment legislation and legal requirements.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in complex or escalated claim scenarios.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- LOMA 280, 290, HIAA, CEBS - GBA are assets
- Proficiency with digital tools and claims management platforms.
