Job summary

voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak Canada is seeking a Bender to bend, curve, and surface rail to meet production schedules and specifications. You will read blueprints and work orders, set up a hydraulic press, and operate cranes with attention to safety.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Forklift and Crane certification preferred.
  • Ability to read work orders, ITPs, blueprints, rulers and tape measures.
  • Basic mathematical calculation experience in adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Bend, curve and surface rail for switch point stock rails and traffic.
  • Operate hydraulic horizontal press and overhead cranes safely.
  • Read and follow production schedule.
  • Adhere to safety, quality and environmental procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Purpose of Position

The Bender is responsible for, but not limited to, bending, curving, and surfacing rail to meet production schedules and comply with applicable drawings and specifications.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Bend, curve and surface rail for switch point stock rails and traffic using a hydraulic horizontal press.
  • Minimal deburring of rail with hand grinder.
  • Read and follow production schedule.
  • Safely operate jib and overhead cranes.
  • Able to work with little supervision.
  • Heat rail with torches per work instructions.
  • Adhere to Nortrak’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing, pulling, or lifting objects for the duration of your required schedule shift.
  • Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach for the duration of your required scheduled shift.
  • Regularly lift and carry 30–35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Hearing abilities necessary to perform job tasks safely and effectively.
Job Requirements (e.g. education, experience, skills and desired competencies)
  • High School graduate or GED preferred
