Job summary

Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto seeks a dedicated Behaviour Technician to join the Extensive Needs Service. You will provide trauma-informed behavioural interventions to children and youth with complex needs, under supervision of a Behaviour Therapist, within an interprofessional team.

Responsibilities include collaborating with families, applying Applied Behaviour Analysis principles, and supporting patients on the ENS unit on the T7E Child and Youth Inpatient Mental Health Unit as needed.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis principles and a minimum of two years’ experience implementing them considered a strong asset.
• Experience supporting children and youth with neurodevelopmental conditions, acquired brain injury, and/or mental health conditions.
• Experience providing services to children and youth with varying abilities who engage in severe interfering behaviours including aggression, self-injury, property destruction, etc.
• Demonstrated experience providing parent training and coaching.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with clients, families, Behaviour Therapist, and members of the interprofessional team.

Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, creative and experienced Behaviour Technician to join the Extensive Needs Service, a new program for individuals up to the age of 18, whose needs cannot be met in a single service stream and who require an integrated approach across Mental, Behavioural and Developmental Health. While this is primarily a clinical role, there will be opportunity to work with other members of an interprofessional team to develop and implement the Behavioural Technician role based on best practices and evidence. Working closely with a supervising Behaviour Therapist, the Behavioural Technician will provide trauma-informed and compassionate behavioural intervention to children, youth and families with extensive needs such as co-occurring medical, physical and developmental complexities and/or social vulnerabilities.

The Behaviour Technician will support the ENS team and patients on the T7E Child and Youth Inpatient Mental Health Unit, as needed.

EDUCATION

• College diploma or undergraduate degree in a field related to behavioural science, psychology, child and youth work, or social services.
• Registered Behaviour Technician certification considered an asset.
