Job summary

BrightPath Kids is hiring a Behavioural Assistant to support students with varying needs in our early childhood education setting. You will implement behaviour plans, assist with personal care, and support students to learn, feel safe and belong in a team environment.

The role requires a relevant certificate (Education Assistant/ECE levels 1-3) and prior experience with challenging behaviour. This position offers a daytime schedule with no evenings or weekends and includes childcare discounts as

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or related field (ECE Level 1–3).
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour or willingness to certify.
• Minimum 1 year experience with students with challenging behaviour and applying positive behaviour supports.
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified.
• Equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to students as identified in individualized plans, including supports like personal care, lifts, transfers and safety needs.
• Implements strategies directed by teachers per behavioural support plans.
• Records observations and data to guide positive behavior strategies.
• Participates in planning meetings for student planning upon request.
• Prepares individualized program materials under teacher direction.
• Supports child learning, belonging and independence.
• Assists with emotional/behavioural regulation per student plans.
• Respects confidentiality of children and staff information.
• Supports daily living activities including toileting and feeding.

Responsibilities Include

• Provides assistance to students as identified in their individualized plans including those students who require additional types of supports such as personal, medical care, lifts, transfers and safety needs
• Implements and reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher(s) and identified in various child’s behaviour support plans.
• Records observations and collects other data on behavioral challenges to be used to help guide and support positive behavior strategies for students
• Participates in collaborative planning meetings for child’s planning as requested
• Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of the teacher
• Actively promotes child’s learning, belonging and independence
• Assists children with their emotional and behavioural regulation, including children who may display violent or aggressive behaviours in accordance with student plans.
• Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of information related to children and personnel.
• Supports children with routine personal care activities and routines of daily living, including but not limited to toileting, lifts, transfers, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding.

Education/Experience

• Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field. ECE Level 1 - 3.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports is considered and asset.
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered

• Demonstrated ability to carry out the plans and directions of teaching staff to assist students.
• Ability to build and maintain rapport with children and staff.
• Ability to adapt to dynamic situations, while successfully managing a high level of stress
• Ability to remain calm and responsive to students in highly elevated emotional states of dysregulation
