Job summary

BrightPath Kids is seeking a Behavioural Assistant at the Windermere Centre to support students with individualized plans. This full-time contract role focuses on assisting teachers, implementing behavior supports, and promoting student learning and independence.

You will collaborate with staff to ensure safety and wellbeing, maintain records, and contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom environment. Training in behavior support and CPR/First Aid are assets.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or related diploma; ECE Level 1-3 preferred.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum 1 year experience with students with challenging behavior and positive behavior supports.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain is an asset.
• Equivalents may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to students as identified in individualized plans, including needs for personal/medical care, lifts, transfers and safety.
• Implements and reinforces strategies from teachers' plans and behavior support plans.
• Records observations and data on behavioral challenges to guide positive behavior strategies.
• Participates in collaborative planning meetings for child planning as requested.
• Assists with preparation of individualized program materials under teacher direction.
• Promotes child learning, belonging and independence.
• Supports emotional and behavioral regulation of children, including those with challenging behaviours.
• Respects confidentiality and privacy of information related to children and staff.
• Assists with routine personal care activities and daily living routines.

• Provides assistance to students as identified in their individualized plans including those students who require additional types of supports such as personal, medical care, lifts, transfers and safety needs
• Implements and reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher(s) and identified in various child’s behaviour support plans.
• Records observations and collects other data on behavioral challenges to be used to help guide and support positive behavior strategies for students
• Participates in collaborative planning meetings for child’s planning as requested
• Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of the teacher
• Actively promotes child’s learning, belonging and independence
• Assists children with their emotional and behavioural regulation, including children who may display violent or aggressive behaviours in accordance with student plans.
• Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of information related to children and personnel.
• Supports children with routine personal care activities and routines of daily living, including but not limited to toileting, lifts, transfers, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding.

Education/Experience

• Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field. ECE Level 1 - 3.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports is considered and asset.
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered
