BrightPath Early Learning & Child Care in Calgary, AB is seeking a Part-Time Behavioural Assistant at our Deer Ridge Center. You will support students per individualized plans, implement strategies, and help with data collection to inform positive behavior supports.

Collaboration with teachers and staff is essential to promote learning, belonging and independence. Requirements include an Educational Assistant Certificate (ECE levels 1-3) and CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain).

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or related field (ECE Level 1-3).
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
• Minimum one year of experience with students with challenging behavior.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to students per individualized plans including supports like personal care, lifts, transfers and safety needs.
• Implements strategies from behaviour support plans as directed by teachers.
• Records observations and data on behavioral challenges to guide positive strategies.
• Participates in planning meetings for child planning as requested.
• Assists in preparing individualized program materials under teacher direction.
• Promotes the student’s learning, belonging and independence.
• Assists with emotional/behavioural regulation and maintains confidentiality.
• Supports routine personal care activities and daily living tasks.

Responsibilities Include

• Provides assistance to students as identified in their individualized plans including those students who require additional types of supports such as personal, medical care, lifts, transfers and safety needs
• Implements and reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher(s) and identified in various child’s behaviour support plans.
• Records observations and collects other data on behavioral challenges to be used to help guide and support positive behavior strategies for students
• Participates in collaborative planning meetings for child’s planning as requested
• Provides assistance with preparation of individualized program materials under the direction of the teacher
• Actively promotes child’s learning, belonging and independence
• Assists children with their emotional and behavioural regulation, including children who may display violent or aggressive behaviours in accordance with student plans.
• Respects confidentiality and maintains privacy of information related to children and personnel.
• Supports children with routine personal care activities and routines of daily living, including but not limited to toileting, lifts, transfers, movement, personal hygiene, eating, drinking, and feeding.

Education/Experience

• Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate/diploma in a related field. ECE Level 1 - 3.
• Training in preventative/de-escalating behaviour, or willingness to become certified.
• Minimum one (1) year experience working with students with challenging behavior and applying positive behavior supports is considered and asset.
• CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is considered an asset.
• An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered

• Ability to remain calm and responsive to students in highly elevated emotional states of dysregulation
• Ability to work effectively in collaborative team settings
• Demonstrated ability to deal with a variety of complex and sensitive issues professionally and in a timely manner
• Excellent multi-tasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
• Working knowledge of child development
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
