Job summary

Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) seeks dedicated B.A.S.S. staff to support after-school programming for junior kindergarten to grade 6. You will work with a DECE to supervise students, assist with play-based activities, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment that supports learning and development.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, prior child supervision experience, and first aid/CPR certification. PVSC and health-record requirements apply.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment.
• Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
• Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED OR willing to obtain this training as a condition of employment.
• Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) within required timeframe for new employees.
• Must complete the Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health, Health Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom.
• Support positive and responsive interactions among children, parents, families, and staff.
• Encourage children to interact and communicate positively and develop self-regulation.
• Support exploration, play and inquiry, and child-initiated activities.
• Ensure safe and healthy environments, including indoor and outdoor play and rest periods.
• Maintain engagement with parents about the program and their children.
• Adhere to licensing requirements under the applicable act and regulations.
