Job summary

Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is seeking a Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) Long-term Occasional employee to assist with play-based programming under a DECE for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6.

The role emphasizes supervising children, fostering positive interactions with families, and contributing to inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environments in accordance with licensing and WRDSB policies.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment
• Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner

Responsibilities

• Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom
• Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, child care providers and staff
• Encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate
• Support the children’s exploration, play and inquiry
• Support child-initiated and adult-supported experiences
• Support positive learning environments and experiences in which each child’s learning and development will be supported and which is inclusive of all children, including children with individualized plans
• Support indoor and outdoor play, as well as active play, rest and quiet time, into the day, and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving child care
• Foster the engagement of and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children
• Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act
• Foster an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, respected, and have the support and resources they need to flourish
• Support the health, safety, nutrition and well-being of the children
• Supervise and support children to ensure that they are healthy and safe by following Public Health, First Aid and Emergency procedures
