Job summary

Waterloo Region District School Board is hiring a Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) worker to assist in the extended day program for junior kindergarten to grade 6 students. You will supervise, support positive interactions and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include following the DECE guidance, facilitating play-based activities, coordinating with parents and staff, and ensuring health and safety procedures are followed.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent level of educational attainment
• Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner
• Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED or willing to obtain it as a condition of employment
• Satisfactory PVSC current within 5 years if currently employed with WRDSB; within 6 months for new employees
• Must complete the Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health

Responsibilities

• Follow the guidance of the DECE operating the extended day classroom
• Support positive and responsive interactions among children, parents, families and staff
• Encourage children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support self-regulation
• Support children’s exploration, play and inquiry
• Support child-initiated and adult-supported experiences
• Create inclusive learning environments for all children, including those with individualized plans
• Support indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest and quiet time
• Engage with parents about the program and their children
• Adhere to licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act
• Foster an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, inclusive culture
