General Summary & Scope

The Beauty Advisor (BA) is responsible for providing an exceptional experience for all Ulta Beauty guests by engaging each guest to determine their individual needs, conducting cashier tasks, keeping fixtures stocked with merchandise, maintaining overall store cleanliness, and completing tasks as assigned. The BA supports the leadership team through a focus on performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the aptitude to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The BA is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, demonstrating them skillfully and consistently through the following duties:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), omni-channel sales, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty for the store.
  • Ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, greeting and engaging each guest, personalizing service, answering questions, informing about promotions, and recommending products/services.
  • Handle customer service, sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously, and assist with online orders.
  • Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an outstanding guest experience while meeting sales goals.
  • Stay informed about new and existing products and services, understanding their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
People
  • Support an inclusive environment that values teammates, peers, and guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to guests.
  • Collaborate with managers and staff to grow the business.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enable continuous professional growth and sales performance.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Maintain replenished, signed, and faced work areas, including testers.
  • Keep store standards and cleanliness high across all areas.
  • Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, displays, inventory, and shipment processing using Ulta’s technology.
  • Follow loss prevention practices to protect assets and provide excellent guest service.
  • Perform other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
Experience
  • 1 year of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
Skills
  • Passion for guest service and sales competency.
  • Proficient with basic technology (POS systems, Apple devices).
  • Strong customer relationship skills.
  • Troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
Special Position Requirements
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
  • Mobility throughout the store during shift.
  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly.
  • Object manipulation and coordination.
