Determined. Imaginative. Curious. If these are some of the ways you describe yourself — we want to learn more about you! At TC Energy, we are Energy Problem Solvers — passionate about transitioning North America to cleaner energy while meeting the energy demands of today and tomorrow. If that sounds like a challenge you want to help tackle, we want you to join our team!

The Opportunity

The Facilities Reliability & Integrity Engineering Services (FRIES) organization is a team of experts who leverage deep technical skills and subject matter expertise to maximize the value of TC Energy’s facilities assets across North America. The FRIES organization is accountable for fit-for-purpose technical standards and asset management strategies that balance risk, asset performance, and cost. FRIES also provides escalated SME support to resolve complex engineering challenges and support operations and project engineering functions.

The Balance of Plant (BOP) team within FRIES comprises senior engineering SMEs with deep technical expertise on systems and equipment core to gas facilities processes, but outside of the prime mover (i.e., compressor units and the main pipeline through facilities). The BOP team consists of Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil engineering SMEs, and has four primary accountabilities: technical authority for engineering standards, Tier 3 (escalated) engineering support to operations engineering, development of asset management strategies, and projects engineering support.

The BOP Team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep industry and technical knowledge and experience in gas facilities mechanical systems characterized as BOP.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as TC Energy’s Technical Authority and SME for BOP mechanical systems and equipment on compressor station and meter station facility assets.
  • Mechanical systems for which BOP is accountable include: heat exchange systems, compressed air systems, HVAC, facility valves, auxiliary piping, fuel and lube oil systems, fire protection systems, cranes, meter run piping, blowdown systems, and silencers.
  • Maintain understanding of and advise on legal requirements, external codes and standards, and act as TC Energy’s representative on targeted technical code committees and industry associations.
  • Establish criteria for and provide technical review of service providers and vendors to meet BOP standards.
  • Provide Tier 3 SME support to Operations Engineering including support for complex engineering issues, high-risk incidents and investigations, and cross-system issues and trends.
  • Support GPMC program development with SME advisement on asset strategies, risk assessments, and optimization.
  • Share best practices, improvements, new technologies, and information within the organization.
  • Develop and oversee asset management and maintenance strategies to balance reliability, cost, and risk for BOP systems.
  • Lead R&D projects to improve equipment design, standards, and methods.
  • Maintain strategic vendor relationships for asset management, industry insights, and innovation.
  • Support project engineering in design reviews and provide SME input.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and P. Eng. designation.
  • Eligible for registration as a P. Eng. with APEGA.
  • Minimum of 20 years of relevant experience.
  • Deep knowledge of industry Codes and Standards related to facilities engineering (e.g., CFR 192, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, B31.8, Section VIII, API standards).
  • Experience in asset management, risk management, reliability, and condition-based maintenance.
  • Experience in developing engineering standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Technical experience in design, oversight, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Pragmatic decision-making and engineering judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in BOP mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Experience with R&D, innovation, and equipment technology development.
  • Knowledge of modern condition monitoring and predictive analytics applicable to BOP equipment.
  • Ability to resolve ambiguous engineering problems with accountability and self-development.
  • Effective communication of complex issues to leadership.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.

We offer a hybrid work model and flexible dress code for eligible office-based employees in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico to support our high-performance culture and flexible work arrangements.
