The Opportunity:

The Mental Health Clinician ensures the optimal delivery of mental health support to residents and clinical nursing staff by utilizing the nursing process and functioning as an integral member of the management team.

The Mental Health Clinician collaborates with the Director of Care to support the overall management of care functions within the facility, ensuring the highest standards of resident quality care are maintained at all times.

What Is In It For You:

  • Promote resident satisfaction and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist nursing staff with initial and ongoing assessments and care plan development, implementation, and review.
  • Assign and supervise nursing staff.
  • Manage mental health issues related to residents, families, and advocates.
  • Encourage and ensure an interdisciplinary approach to resident care.
  • Serve as a role model for nursing staff by demonstrating clinical expertise in mental health and comprehensive knowledge of mental health practices.
  • Provide ongoing staff development and education to enhance the mental health program.
  • Possess knowledge and experience with MDS/Care Management systems.
  • Supervise the entire building in the absence of senior management.
  • Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents).
  • Uphold and promote organizational values and philosophy, especially concerning ethics, morality, and integrity, as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need:

  • Experience as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, with eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.
  • Minimum of 4 years of crisis assessment and stabilization experience within an Addiction and Mental Health community setting.
  • Awareness of community agencies and resources for addiction and mental health clients (inside and outside of AHS) is an asset. Training in critical incident stress management is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of nursing leadership experience with comprehensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices related to mental health long-term care.
  • Training in Psychological First Aid is required.
  • Knowledge of current nursing and medical practices, laws, standards, regulations, and guidelines related to the Continuing Care sector.
  • Understanding of current Alberta health legislation and standards.
  • Adherence to regulated practice standards, ethical standards, privacy policies, and workplace safety regulations. Experience with MDS/Care Management systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary community health team and to accept and request guidance as needed.
