Job summary

ELITS Canada is seeking an experienced Azure API Engineer for a remote consulting assignment based in Canada. You will support the Integration Hub built on Azure API Management, developing a modern internal developer platform with a strong focus on API lifecycle, security, and automation.

You will own API management, developer portals, cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines, combining hands-on engineering with technical ownership and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• Minimum five years of relevant professional experience.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure API Management or similar API management platform.
• Experience building or extending full stack/internal developer portals.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and OpenAPI specifications.

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain and enhance Azure API Management, including onboarding, backend integrations, routing and policies.
• Implement API authentication, authorization and lifecycle management practices.
• Develop and maintain the central developer portal for the Integration Hub.
• Manage API catalog entries, documentation and metadata across systems.
• Build automated API spec validation, linting and quality controls within CI/CD pipelines.
• Automate platform deployment and configuration using IaC and support monitoring.
• Troubleshoot issues across API gateways, portals, catalog integrations and cloud infra.

About the Role

ELITS Canada is looking for an experienced Azure API Engineer for a remote consulting assignment based in Canada . In this role, you will support the continued development of an Integration Hub built on Microsoft Azure API Management (APIM) and full stack , with the goal of evolving the platform into a modern internal developer platform . You will combine hands on engineering with technical ownership across API management, developer portals, cloud infrastructure, automation, and platform improvement.

Responsibilities

• Configure, maintain, and enhance Microsoft Azure API Management (APIM) , including API onboarding, backend integrations, routing, gateway policies, and traffic controls.
• Implement and maintain API authentication , authorization, security, and lifecycle management practices.
• Develop, customize, and maintain full stack as the central developer portal for the Integration Hub.
• Manage API catalog entries, documentation, ownership information, metadata, and integrations across connected systems.
• Build automated API specification validation , linting, and quality controls, and integrate them into continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Automate platform deployment and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) , while supporting monitoring, observability, and operational reliability.
• Troubleshoot issues across API gateways , developer portals, catalog integrations, applications, and cloud infrastructure; create documentation and drive continuous platform improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, with at least five years of relevant professional experience .
• Strong hands on experience with Microsoft Azure API Management or a comparable API management platform.
• Experience developing or extending full stack or a similar internal developer portal.
• Solid understanding of Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs , OpenAPI specifications, and API lifecycle management.
• Strong development skills in TypeScript and JavaScript, including Node.js and React .
• Experience with API security concepts, including OAuth 2.0 , OpenID Connect , and JSON Web Tokens (JWT) .
• Experience with Git based development, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform , Bicep , or similar Infrastructure as Code and automation tools.
