Job summary

GFL Talent in Ottawa is seeking AZ/DZ licensed drivers to join our team. You will operate a variety of industrial trucks and assist with loading, delivery, and paperwork to ensure safe, on-time service for municipal and commercial customers.

Candidates must have an AZ or DZ license with a clean CVOR, be able to work a flexible schedule, and possess mechanical knowledge. Union driver position with comprehensive safety training and benefits offered by GFL Environmental.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads.
  • Perform pre-trip and periodic inspections of equipment and load.
  • Maintain logs of hours and vehicle service records.
  • Deliver to customers with courteous, timely service.
  • Record and report vehicle defects or delivery issues.
  • Comply with transport regulations and safety rules.
  • Load/unload trucks and ensure proper paperwork.

GFL Environmental is looking for AZ/DZ licensed drivers for our location based out of Ottawa. We are an integrated environmental services company providing industrial, commercial, utilities, institutional, residential, and municipal customers with leading-edge solutions to a variety of environmental and waste-handling problems.

Successful candidates will drive & operate a variety of our industrial trucks/units, such as:

  • Combination units.
  • Power vacuum units.
  • Hydro excavation units.
  • Box trucks
  • Roll-off bin units
  • High-pressure water blasters.
  • Tractor trailers (AZ/DZ drivers)
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
  • Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration and weights and dimensions.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
  • Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests etc. by manual or electronic means.
  • Loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.
  • Deliver to product and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Provide feedback to supervision regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • Manual is preferred but both auto/manual transmissions are available Monday-Friday (for a day shift) and on-call every 4th weekend
  • AZ or DZ driver’s license with a clean Driver’s and CVOR abstract.
  • Ability to work an irregular work schedule (extended hours and variable shifts).
  • Ability to work in a confined space environment and/or at heights.
  • Mechanical knowledge.
