Job description

Etobicoke

Location: Etobicoke, ON

Date: August 2026

Department: Fleet & Warehouse

Reports to: Fleet Supervisor

Work Type: Fully On-Site

The Opportunity Awaits—Where Passion Meets Impact!

Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and the expert in perishable food recovery. We rescue surplus, unsold food from across the supply chain and redistribute it to non-profits across the country to feed communities. Demonstrating our values of community, environment, integrity, and collaboration, we strive for No Waste. No Hunger.

Looking for more than just a driving job? At Second Harvest, every route you take helps deliver real impact—connecting surplus food with communities that need it most.

Enter Second Harvest… Think we are just about moving surplus food? Think bigger.

  • Drive with impact: The work you do every day helps reduce food waste and support communities across the GTA.
  • Be part of something meaningful: Join a team that is leading the way in food rescue across Canada.
  • See the difference you make: From pickup to delivery, you will experience firsthand how your work helps feed people and strengthen communities.
The Role:

At Second Harvest, our Driver–Ambassadors are at the heart of a mission that matters. We are looking for skilled AZ and DZ drivers who want to put their experience to work in a role with real social impact. In this position, you will do more than deliver food—you will help ensure surplus food gets to the communities that need it most, while building meaningful connections across the GTA.

As a Driver–Ambassador, you will safely transport rescued food between donors, our warehouse, and community partners, helping ensure food reaches communities across our network. You will also represent Second Harvest through positive interactions with food donors and partner organizations, helping bring our mission to life every day.

This role is ideal for drivers (3+ years’ experience) who enjoy being active, independent, and hands-on—but who also value purpose, community, and making a difference every day.

Future Opportunities at Second Harvest

We are building a talent pipeline of qualified AZ and DZ Driver Ambassadors for upcoming opportunities. While there may not be an immediate opening, we welcome applications from experienced drivers interested in joining Second Harvest as future vacancies arise.

Your Impact:
  • Deliver with purpose: Safely operate Second Harvest vehicles to complete scheduled food pickups and deliveries, ensuring food reaches community partners efficiently, on time, and with care. This may include operating straight box trucks, tractor trailers, and other fleet vehicles as required. Adhere to all safety standards, organizational policies, and the Highway Traffic Act.
  • AZ-specific operations: Where required, safely couple, inspect, and secure tractor-trailers, including connecting air brake and electrical lines, conducting tug tests, completing post-coupling inspections, and ensuring trailers are safe and road-ready before transport.
  • Community ambassador: Represent Second Harvest on every route—building positive relationships with food donors and community partners and acting as a visible champion of our mission to reduce hunger and food waste.
  • Engage with impact: Interact daily with agencies and donors, helping strengthen our network and support equitable food distribution across communities.
  • Handle food responsibly: Ensure all food is handled, transported, and delivered in compliance with food safety standards, maintaining quality.
  • Safety Focused: Complete daily circle checks and vehicle inspections; promptly report concerns and maintain strict adherence to Health & Safety requirements.
  • Reliable and Accountable: Arrive prepared and on time for each shift, supporting smooth and efficient route execution.
  • Load, unload, and move product: Safely load and unload food—often involving manual handling (“hand bombing”). This is a physically active role requiring regular lifting, carrying, and movement throughout the shift.
  • Ensure proper storage and transport: Manage safe storage (e.g., freezer, cooler, truck) and ensure vehicles are operated and parked in approved locations.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with Driver–Ambassadors, the Lead Driver–Ambassador, and the Fleet Supervisor to support efficient, equitable operations.
  • Maintain accurate records: Complete all required documentation for pickups, deliveries, and vehicle use in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Service Excellence: Provide a high level of professionalism, communication, and care in all interactions.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support fleet and warehouse operations.
Who You Are:
  • Skilled and experienced driver: You hold a valid DZ and/or AZ driver's licence and have a minimum of 3 years of commercial driving experience. DZ drivers have experience operating 10-speed automatic straight/box trucks, while AZ drivers have experience operating tractor-trailers and 10-speed automatic trucks. You maintain a clean driver's abstract (minimum 3 years) and have proven ability to perform pickup and delivery functions, maintain accurate records, and deliver routes safely and efficiently.
  • Safety comes first: You are a confident, defensive driver with a strong understanding of the Highway Traffic Act and a consistent track record of safe driving and adherence to Health & Safety standards.
  • Confident in the city: You know the GTA—especially downtown Toronto—and are comfortable navigating busy, urban routes and tight delivery locations.
  • Professional on the road: You bring a positive, respectful approach to every interaction, with strong customer service, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills and the ability to represent Second Harvest with professionalism.
  • Clear communicator: You communicate effectively with dispatch, team members, donors, and community partners.
  • Hands-on and physically capable: You are comfortable in an active role that includes climbing in/out of the truck and regularly lifting up to 50 lbs throughout your shift.
  • Dependable and organized: You manage your time well, stay on schedule, and adapt to changing routes and daily demands.
  • Driven by purpose: You take pride in work that makes a difference—helping reduce food waste and support communities across Toronto.
  • Nice to have: Experience in the non-profit or social services sector, and/or food handling experience. A Safe Food Handling Certificate is an asset.
  • Ready to get started: Willing to complete a background check.

  • Ten paid sick days & three personal days.
  • Summer Bonus Days & Winter holiday closure.
  • Access to parental leave top-up.
  • Access to an Employee and Family Assistance Program.
  • Professional growth in a role that makes a real difference.
  • Flexible work hours and a commitment to work-life balance.
