We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AWS Cloud Architect to join our team. The AWS Cloud Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based solutions in AWS and Azure, ensuring alignment with AWS Well-Architected Framework best practices. This role will involve hands-on technical leadership, deep expertise in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), modern DevOps pipeline integration, and coordinating deployments across multiple application layers and external validation teams. The primary objective is to drive the secure transition of business-critical applications to a robust, secure, and compliant cloud environment.
We are committed to fair and transparent compensation. The salary range for this role is based on several factors including experience, skills, and qualifications and is $130,000 to $180,000 CAD.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and implement secure, scalable, and highly available cloud solutions following AWS Well-Architected Framework standards.
- Serve as a technical lead, providing hands-on expertise to guide and mentor engineering and DevOps teams in building and deploying cloud infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) scripts primarily using Terraform.
- Design and implement robust DevOps pipelines to enable Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes.
- Collaborate closely with software development, QA, security, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and validation of application changes through multiple SDLC environments.
- Establish clear and effective practices for multi-layered application deployments, ensuring comprehensive testing and validation across internal and external teams.
- Identify and implement strategies to enhance cloud security, governance, compliance, and cost-efficiency.
- Understanding of agile project management methodologies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to cloud infrastructure and deployments, proactively identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide strategic insights and architectural guidance to stakeholders, aligning technical solutions with business objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, AWS platform advancements, and emerging cloud technologies.
- Craft multi-phased cloud implementation roadmaps.
- Implement optimize foundational cloud platforms using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Policy-as-Code automation tools for consistency repeatability sustainability auditability.
- Collaborate with application infrastructure teams to conduct proof of concepts (POCs) implement production-ready designs.
- Create automation frameworks for AWS Azure cloud environments utilizing tools like CloudFormation Terraform others.
- Deploy ControlTower with Controls (Guardrails) in production.
- Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform CloudFormation.
- Employ Configuration Management tools like Ansible Chef Puppet.
- Work with containers container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes Docker).
- Demonstrate proficiency in major cloud platforms including AWS & Azure.
- Have awareness of on-premises virtualization technologies (e.g., HyperV VMware).
- Apply High Availability Disaster Recovery principles practices.
- Promote fundamental security practices in cloud environments.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Required Skills
- Familiarity with Automation tools/IaC solutions such as CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins.
- Development of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using CloudFormation templates YAML files build specifications Python Lambda functions to automate AWS resource infrastructure code artifacts.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing AWS cloud architectures.
- Deep knowledge of AWS services, including but not limited to EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, RDS, Lambda, CloudFront, CloudWatch, and AWS security practices.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically Terraform.
- Hands-on experience deploying applications across multiple layers (dev QA staging prod) collaborating with external teams for validation testing.
- Excellent understanding of cloud security best practices experiences transitioning legacy environments into secure cloud architectures.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical strategies solutions to stakeholders cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Five-year technical degree (I.E. bachelors) or equivalent experience required. In such fields such as engineering science computer engineering etc. preferred.
- 5+ years related experience and/or training required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in implementing supporting AWS infrastructure services
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification.
- Experience with container orchestration platforms (EKS ECS Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with application monitoring observability logging tools (CloudWatch LogicMonitor).
- Experience working within regulated industries, ensuring compliance with security requirements and SOC 2 standards.
- Experience with Azure is a plus.
