JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to perform qualified mechanical repairs, maintenance and rebuild light vehicle modifications and other related duties to light government fleet vehicles and small engine repair activities to government equipment. This position will provide repair assistance to heavy duty mechanics in the performance of work duties. This work requires employees to work a flexible schedule on weekends and/or evenings to meet operational requirements.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Performing Provincial MVIs and monitoring vehicle compliance with inspection renewal requirements.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations and changes, and brake inspections etc.
  • Seasonal maintenance to mowers, snippers/trimmers, chainsaws, snowblowers, generators, water pumps, rollers, trailers, etc.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, and fluid checks.
  • Ensuring proper materials, fluids, and parts are used according to vehicle specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety standards and protocols
  • Posting detailed service information and work order updates. Accurately records the cause and correction into electronic repair orders.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED).
  • Must possess a Certification of Qualification (Red Seal) as an Automotive Service Technician;
  • Must have training and considerable recent experience working in a computerized environment (i.e., diagnostic repairs).
  • Must have considerable experience in a light fleet and small engine mechanical repair environment.
  • Be physically able to perform the duties of the position; including heavy lifting, climbing up and under equipment.
  • Be able to work independently, under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Applicant must hold a valid provincial Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) License or the ability to obtain the license.
  • Must have a valid Prince Edward Island Class 5A, hold or be willing to obtain a Class 2A, driver’s license and provide a current and satisfactory driver’s abstract and medical.
  • Prior to employment, must have or procure all basic tools, toolbox and equipment necessary to operate as a Small Engine and Automotive Service Technician.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Tire Service Certification Course, Forklift Certificate and Crane Certification.
  • Be able to respond to service calls within a reasonable time frame to the site of repair.
  • Candidate should possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as strong written and communication skills.
  • Prior to beginning employment, the successful applicant must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check;
  • Prior to beginning employment, the successful applicant must provide a current hearing test;
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, training in WHMIS and First Aid / CPR;
  • This position is designated, employee must be able to travel to or stay work for periods of time as operational demands require;
Other Qualifications:
  • Small Equipment Mechanic (Provincial trade only).
  • Preference will be given to applicant who possess a Certification of Qualification (Red Seal) as an Automotive Service Technician and Small Equipment Mechanic (Provincial trade only).
