Job summary

Shaw GMC in Calgary, Alberta, part of the Kaizen Automotive Group, seeks a Red Seal Journeyman Technician to diagnose, maintain and repair customer vehicles to OEM standards. This role demands strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship while collaborating with the Service Advisor and management teams.

You will perform advanced diagnostics, complete warranty repairs, mentor apprentices, follow safety protocols, and participate in ongoing OEM training.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Certified Automotive Service Technician (provincial certification).
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills in electrical, mechanical and electronic systems.
• Experience with OEM repair systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance following OEM guidelines.
• Document repair needs and orders accurately.
• Diagnose complex issues using OEM tools and appliances.
• Complete warranty repairs per OEM requirements.
• Communicate repair needs and timelines with Service Advisors.
• Road test vehicles to verify concerns and repairs.
• Maintain a clean, safe workspace per dealership standards.
• Participate in OEM training and development.
• Follow dealership processes for parts handling and safety.

Position Summary

The Automotive Red Seal Journeyman Technician is responsible for performing high-quality diagnosis, maintenance, and repair work on customer vehicles in accordance with OEM standards. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional workmanship. The Technician works closely with the Service Advisor and Service Management teams to ensure accurate communication, efficient workflow, and a superior customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on vehicles following OEM guidelines and safety standards.
• Conduct inspections, identify repair needs, and provide accurate documentation for repair orders.
• Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using OEM approved equipment and tools.
• Complete warranty repairs in accordance with OEM requirements and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with Service Advisors to communicate repair needs, timelines, and technical findings.
• Road test vehicles as necessary to verify concerns and confirm successful repairs.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organized work area in compliance with dealership and manufacturer standards.
• Participate in ongoing OEM training, certification programs, and professional development.
• Follow all dealership processes, including proper parts handling, workflow procedures, and safety protocols.
• Mentor apprentices or junior technicians as assigned by the Service Manager or Shop Foreman.
• All other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Certified Automotive Service Technician (or equivalent provincial certification).
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills with experience in electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems.
• Previous dealership experience or familiarity with OEM repair systems preferred.
• Ability to use OEM diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and modern repair technologies.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and continuous improvement.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
• Additional OEM specific certifications are an asset.
