Job summary

Linamar Corporation in Guelph, Ontario is seeking an Automation Technician to program, commission, and support automated equipment across plant lines. The role requires 3+ years in PLC programming and HMI work with Rockwell and Siemens platforms, plus network and CAD capabilities.

You will collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance to enhance line performance, while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

Completion of a minimum 3-year diploma or degree program in a Technologist or Engineering program from Electrical/Mechatronics/Electronics or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years experience in PLC programming, troubleshooting and modifications across Allen Bradley platforms using Rslinx, RsLogix 500/5000, and related tools.
Minimum of 3 years experience in troubleshooting and making HMI modifications using Rockwell software.
Knowledge of industrial automation networks like Ethernet, DevicNet, ControlNet, DH+, DH-485, RS-232, Profibus & ASi.
Experience in CNC and robotic repair/programming is an asset.
Understanding of electrical/electronic schematics, blueprints, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
Siemens S7 would be an asset; SolidWorks or AutoCAD would be an asset.
Knowledge of robot systems (ABB, Motoman, Fanuc, Kuka) and drives (Powerflex, Danfoss, Rexroth) and Kinetix servo drives.

Responsibilities

Program, debug and commission automation systems during integration and runoff.
Test and integrate hardware/software components such as robots, sensors and motion controllers.
Act as a plant resource for line improvements and automation projects with Engineering and Maintenance.
Plan and document automation design parameters at plant level.
Collaborate with Engineers on design, maintenance and inspection to meet timelines.
Work with program managers during APQP stages of new programs.
Support PPAP-approved processes and resolve non-value-added steps.
Evaluate equipment condition and propose repairs or replacements.
Plan work to minimize downtime while ensuring safety and productivity.
