Job summary

Mitchell Plastics Ltd. in Canada seeks a Maintenance Automation Technician to support our Kitchener production facility. The role covers maintenance of automation equipment and process control to meet just-in-time production needs on multiple shifts.

You will collaborate with Process Engineering, Production and Maintenance teams to keep lines running, identify improvements, and participate in change-overs and start-ups as required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or commensurate experience in automation & robotics.
• Experience with PLC-based equipment and machine logic.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair assembly equipment.
• Ability to read electrical, pneumatic and mechanical drawings.
• Understanding of machine guarding and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety concerns and repair unsafe conditions.
• Maintain assembly machines following PM schedules and suggest improvements.
• Respond to breakdowns and maintain process uptime through troubleshooting.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and communicate opportunities.
• Document issues and repairs in the appropriate systems.
• Support start-up and change-over of production equipment.
• Assist in new equipment commissioning and start-up.

The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Automation Technician to join our production facility in Kitchener either on the Afternoon or Night Shift. The Incumbent of this role is a key player in keeping our Production and Maintenance Teams running efficiently, while ensuring we are able to meet customer requirements in a fast-paced, \"just-in-time\" environment. Cooperation with the Process Engineering, Production and Maintenance Teams is essential for this position. While this is a straight Afternoon/Night Shift role at this time, Candidates must be flexible to work any/all shifts, daily/weekend overtime as required plus rotating on-call duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify safety concerns and repair unsafe conditions.


• Maintain assembly machines and equipment per established PM schedules. Suggest improvements to PM schedules (frequency and content) as applicable.


• Respond promptly to breakdowns and maintain process uptime through troubleshooting and repairs.


• Be actively involved in continuous improvement activities. Communicate opportunities for improvement through the appropriate channels.


• Document issues and repairs using the appropriate systems and forms.


• Support production equipment start-up and change-over as required.


• Assist in new equipment commissioning and start-up.


• Any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology – Automation & Robotics – or commensurate experience


• Working knowledge & experience with PLC-based equipment & machine logic


• Experience troubleshooting and repairing assembly equipment


• Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic, electric and mechanical equipment


• Ability to select and install sensors and other machine components


• Knowledge of and ability to use machining tools and equipment including powered & hand-held tools


• Ability to read, understand and update electrical, pneumatic and mechanical drawings for assembly machines and equipment


• Through understanding of machine guarding and other safety requirements

While not mandatory, preference will be given to those with:

• Experience programming OMRON PLCs


• Working knowledge & experience installing & troubleshooting vision cameras/sensors


• Ability & willingness to complete Millwright Apprenticeship/Red Seal Certification

Job Details:

Hourly Wage: $45.90 + night shift premium of $0.75/hour shift or afternoon shift premium of $0.50/hour

Employment Type: Full-time

Work Location: 100 Washburn Drive, Kitchener, Ontario (on-site)

Hours of Work: Night Shift: 11 pm – 7 am, Sunday night to Thursday Night

Afternoon shift: 3pm – 11pm Monday to Friday
