Imperial is offering an Upstream Mine/Plant Automation Engineering internship for January or May 2027 in Calgary, AB. You will work with experienced professionals, gain hands-on exposure to DCS/SCADA/PLC systems, and contribute to projects that drive real results.

A strong foundation in engineering and a proactive mindset are essential. You will rotate within the automation team, receive coaching, and be involved in activities from instrumentation to cybersecurity and data analytics.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mining, Computer, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
• University student available for a work term beginning January or May 2027.
• Returning to full-time studies after the work term.
• Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills.
• Motivated, results-oriented and collaborative.
• Willingness to learn continuously in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design, installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of automation systems.
• Support CI initiatives and contribute to digitalization efforts in automation.
• Prepare instrumentation diagrams and input/output lists for new designs and ongoing maintenance.
• Collaborate across teams to optimize plant automation and data analytics.
• Gain exposure to day-to-day engineering work and advance technical knowledge.
