Taste of Nature Foods Inc. in Markham, ON is seeking an Automation & Electrical Technician to join our maintenance team.

This full-time role maintains electrical and automation systems across production lines, leveraging PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives and instrumentation to minimize downtime and ensure safety and quality in a food production setting. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of hands-on experience, a relevant diploma, and an active license (442A or 309A).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years hands-on electrical and automation maintenance in manufacturing.
  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Must have a valid 442A Industrial Electrician license or 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician license.
  • PLC programming training/certification preferred.
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and electrical motors.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, automation equipment, control panels, PLCs, HMIs, and instrumentation across production lines.
  • Test and observe electrical and mechanical components and systems using testing instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC electric motors, servo motors, transformers, and other electromechanical equipment.
  • Maintain and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service logs.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams on automation upgrades.

We’re looking to enhance our team by welcoming a new Automation & Electrical Technician to Maintenance team. The Automation & Electrical Technician is a full-time salaried position critical to maintaining smooth and efficient production operations. This role is responsible for performing electrical and automation system troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on production equipment and facility systems. The technician will work with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and various instrumentation to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and electrical codes. A commitment to continuous learning and adherence to safety and food industry standards is essential for success in this role.

Job Duties:
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, automation equipment, control panels, PLCs, HMIs, and instrumentation across production lines.
  • Test and observe electrical and mechanical components and systems using testing and measuring instruments to ensure proper operation and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC electric motors, Servo motors, transformers, and other electromechanical equipment.
  • Test and repair or replace faulty wiring, connections, or internal components in electrical motors and control systems.
  • Test repaired motors, transformers, drives, and other electrical apparatus to verify performance and safety before returning them to service.
  • Perform on-site service and repair tasks on production floor equipment and automated systems.
  • Install, inspect, and test electrical panels and associated motor control components, including VFDs, Servo Drives, relays, and contactors.
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repair tasks, including diagnosing mechanical failures and working with gearboxes, conveyors, and bearings as needed.
  • Conduct and document preventive and predictive maintenance programs for both electrical and mechanical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance activities on machinery as per maintenance schedules and safety standards.
  • Adjust machinery, calibrate sensors, and repair or replace defective parts and components to restore equipment functionality.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation such as electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and service logs.
  • Ensure all work complies with ESA regulations, electrical codes, food safety standards (HACCP, GMP, SQF), and company health and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams on automation upgrades, continuous improvement initiatives, and new equipment commissioning.
  • Record all maintenance activities and ensure the parts inventory is kept up to date.

You offer:
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in electrical and automation maintenance in a manufacturing or food production environment.
  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Electromechanical Technician, or a related field.
  • Must have a valid 442A Industrial Electrician license or 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician license
  • PLC programming training/certification preferred.
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and electrical motors.
  • Experience working with mechanical systems, conveyors, and packaging machinery is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and industrial control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with food industry standards such as GMP and HACCP is an asset.
