Job summary

Lassonde is seeking an Electrical Automation Specialist to lead the design, programming and optimization of PLC/robotics within our Ontario and Western Canada facilities. You will champion automation standards, improve equipment reliability and support capital projects from concept through commissioning.

The role requires 5+ years in industrial automation, strong expertise with Allen-Bradley and HMI/SCADA, and a licence as a strong asset.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Industrial Electrician licence (309A or 442A) is a strong asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation.
  • 3+ years in food & beverage manufacturing is an asset.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA, networking and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read/modify electrical drawings.
  • Proven commissioning/optimisation of automated systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, optimize and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, servo systems for reliability.
  • Lead capital projects from concept to commissioning and start-up.
  • Drive root-cause investigations to resolve production issues.
  • Improve OEE, energy efficiency and process performance.
  • Maintain programming standards and documentation.
  • Coordinate ESA inspections and ensure compliance.
  • Travel regularly to Ontario and Western Canada for project leadership.

Job description

The Electrical Automation Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of manufacturing automation systems across multiple production facilities. This role provides advanced technical expertise in industrial controls, robotics, electrical systems and automation technologies while supporting projects from concept through commissioning.

Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and external partners, the Electrical Automation Specialist drives initiatives that improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, enhance operational efficiency and promote standardization across the organization. The position requires travel to manufacturing facilities in Ontario and Western Canada and the flexibility to provide support outside regular working hours when business needs require it.

Key activities
  • Design, program, optimize and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, servo motion and industrial communication systems to maximize equipment performance and reliability.
  • Participate in capital projects from concept development through commissioning and production start-up.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and resolve complex electrical and automation issues affecting production performance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve OEE, equipment reliability, energy efficiency and process performance.
  • Establish and maintain programming standards, reusable software libraries and automation best practices.
  • Update electrical drawings, PLC backups and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) inspections and ensure accurate documentation and record retention.
  • Design and review control panels and field installations in compliance with applicable electrical codes.
  • Perform calibrations on various equipment;
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Maintain expertise in emerging automation technologies through continuous professional development.
  • Develop and deliver technical training programs for maintenance and operations teams.
  • Champion electrical safety, LOTO compliance and safe work practices while promoting a proactive safety culture across all supported facilities.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for electrical, instrumentation and automation issues impacting production.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations and external vendors.
  • Travel regularly throughout Ontario and Western Canada to provide project leadership, technical expertise and commissioning support.
  • Contribute to other technical and operational initiatives aligned with business needs.
Required Training And Experience
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation or equivalent.
  • Industrial Electrician (309A or 442A) licence is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience within a food and beverage manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated expertise in industrial automation platforms including Allen-Bradley PLC systems; Siemens experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA, industrial networking and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read and modify electrical drawings.
  • Proven experience commissioning and optimizing automated manufacturing systems.
