Job summary

ABL Employment Inc in Hamilton, Ontario, seeks an Automation Engineer to design and program control systems for multi-disciplinary projects from design through commissioning.

You will develop PLC programs, configure HMIs and drives, produce AutoCAD drawings, ensure drawings meet PEO standards, and lead installation and startup activities.

This role requires strong analytical skills and knowledge of Rockwell and Siemens platforms, with a valid driver’s license and a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Expert-level knowledge of control systems including PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, and drives.
• Proficient programming across multiple PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens).
• Advanced instrumentation, combustion and safety system knowledge.
• Instrumentation design expertise.
• Strong understanding of electrical theory.
• Familiarity with regulatory codes, standards and specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Develop and configure PLC programs and other automation devices, including HMIs, drives, switches, and analyzers, per design documents.
• Develop control system panel designs and drawings using AutoCAD.
• Apply approved specifications to produce complete control system drawing packages.
• Review and stamp control system drawings in accordance with PEO requirements.
• Lead installation, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of control systems.
• Specify equipment and perform control system, instrumentation, and safety system design.
• Develop specifications and standards in line with applicable legislation, industry standards, and plant requirements.
• Deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
• Coordinate projects and execute designs with minimal guidance in a multidisciplinary environment.
