Job Description

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Automation Control Specialist will ensure the efficiency and reliability of our automation and control systems. This role is vital for driving manufacturing efficiency and supporting the development and implementation of automation systems across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical troubleshooting and training/coaching on new or modified systems, based on a solid understanding of key systems and processes.
  • Update legacy technologies to current standards as needed.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies to provide relevant electrical design consultation.
  • Program automation and control systems.
  • Enhance existing PLC programs, including servo drives and VFDs, to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Serve as a resource for automation system development and implementation.
Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with PLCs, HMIs, servos, VFDs, electrical systems, hydraulics, controls, and pneumatics.
  • Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience as an Industrial Electrician.
  • Excellent communication skills; bilingual in French is a strong asset.
  • Proficient in reading PLC code, schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards, including NEC and UL508a, and safe electrical work practices (LOTO, Arc Flash NFPA 70e).
  • Understanding of Industrial Ethernet Networks and communication standards.
  • Skilled in using electrical testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety systems like safety PLCs, E-stops, relays, and light curtains.
  • Understanding of calibration procedures for process instruments measuring temperature, pressure, flow, etc.
