Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS) Manager

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS) Manager to support the early stages of a major expansion project in Canada, involving approximately 90,000 I/O points. This role is pivotal in leading and coordinating automation activities throughout the project lifecycle. Once operational, the focus will shift to implementing and optimizing automated solutions to enhance production efficiency and quality. The position reports to the Vice President of Automation, IT, and Digitalization.

Key Responsibilities

Project Phase:

  • Serve as the IACS Lead Engineer during the project, overseeing all related activities in Canada.
  • Build and manage a team of IACS engineers to support the expansion project and plant operations, with expertise in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS), Human Machine Interface (HMI), OT Networks, and Cybersecurity.
  • Coordinate and drive automation discipline activities throughout the project.
  • Evaluate specifications, designs, equipment choices, and installation plans.
  • Support the bidding and vendor selection process for project execution.
  • Ensure alignment with internal standards and project specifications, addressing any deviations.

Operational Phase:

  • Ensure compliance with safety, corporate, and quality standards in all IACS-related processes.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of IACS systems within the facility.
  • Implement and refine automated solutions to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of IACS strategies, standards, and action plans.
  • Establish and maintain a lifecycle management plan for IACS systems at the plant.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in automation, electrical engineering, cybernetics, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • 10+ years of industry experience, particularly in large-scale projects.
  • Strong technical expertise in automation, including DCS/SCADA systems, SIS, BPCS, HMI, OT Networks, Cybersecurity, Robotics, and Industrial AI.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, and collaborate effectively with external partners.
  • Extensive experience in planning and executing automation projects.
  • Background in designing and developing IACS systems for both batch and continuous processes.
  • International and multicultural experience is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with Canadian codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
