Qualifications

  • 3+ years developing, validating, or auditing statistical and predictive models.
  • 3+ years in Credit Risk and Fraud Risk Management including risk strategy development, model development, governance, and risk management frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of model risk management regulations and guidance (OSFI E-23, SR 11-7 or equivalent).
  • 3+ years experience with Retail Banking and Business Banking Credit Risk models (PD, LGD, EAD, AIRB).

Responsibilities

  • Lead audit engagements focused on model risk management, development, validation, and controls.
  • Act as Officer-in-Charge for less complex audit assignments.
  • Understand business processes, governance, and risks; perform testing and evaluation of controls.
  • Document workpapers, findings, and conclusions per audit standards.
  • Deliver audits within timelines and ensure proper coverage and depth.
  • Identify deficiencies, root causes, and remediation actions; draft clear reports.
  • Monitor remediation efforts and track management action plans.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across risk management, model development, and validation teams.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced audit professional to support a high‑profile independent assessment of model development and validation processes and controls within a large financial institution. This role will focus on evaluating model risk management practices, governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance across credit and fraud risk models. The successful candidate will join a specialized audit team responsible for assessing data risk, model risk, and emerging AI‑related risks. This is a critical initiative requiring strong technical knowledge of model development, validation, and risk management frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in and lead audit engagements focused on model risk management, model development, validation processes, and associated controls.
  • Execute audit activities independently and, where appropriate, act as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for less complex audit assignments.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of business processes, model governance frameworks, and associated risks.
  • Perform audit testing and assessment procedures to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
  • Document audit workpapers, findings, testing results, and conclusions in accordance with audit standards and methodologies.
  • Deliver audits within established timelines while ensuring appropriate audit coverage and testing depth.
  • Identify control deficiencies, root causes, associated impacts, and practical recommendations for remediation.
  • Draft clear, concise, and high-quality audit reports and communicate findings to stakeholders and management.
  • Monitor and track remediation efforts and management action plans related to audit findings.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, model development teams, validation teams, and risk management functions.
  • Support a strong risk and control culture while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, internal policies, and governance standards.
Experience
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience developing, validating, or auditing statistical and predictive models.
  • 3+ years of experience in Credit Risk and Fraud Risk Management, including:
    • Risk strategy development
    • Model development
    • Model governance
    • Model risk management frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of model risk management regulations and guidance, including:
    • OSFI E-23
    • SR 11-7 / equivalent model risk management standards
  • 3+ years of experience with Retail Banking and Business Banking Credit Risk models, including:
    • Probability of Default (PD)
    • Loss Given Default (LGD)
    • Exposure at Default (EAD)
    • AIRB methodology
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Model development lifecycle
    • Model validation methodologies
    • Predictive analytics
    • Statistical modeling techniques
    • Model governance frameworks
  • Experience using analytics and modeling tools such as:
    • SQL
    • SAS
    • Python
    • R
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Data Analytics, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
  • Prior experience auditing model risk management frameworks within a regulated financial institution.
  • Exposure to enterprise model governance and regulatory examinations.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, FRM, CIA, or related credentials are considered an asset.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Toronto, ON.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
