Job summary

The Law Society of Alberta regulates the legal profession in the public interest and seeks a Supervisor, Audit within Trust Safety to lead the organization’s audit program. You will direct staff and external auditors, ensure methodologies are applied consistently, and produce defensible findings to guide regulatory actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CFE, CAMS are required; certification in progress acceptable.
  • 5+ years of progressive audit experience in public accounting, internal audit, regulatory audit, or compliance.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or people leadership experience or leading complex audit engagements.
  • Strong knowledge of audit standards, risk assessment practices, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience in regulatory, public-sector, or professional oversight environment is an asset.
  • Familiarity with law firm trust accounting and regulatory compliance is an asset.
  • Experience using data analytics or audit automation tools to inform risk-based oversight is an asset.
  • Exposure to fraud risk, misconduct investigations, or AML frameworks is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead audit program development and oversight to ensure risk-based approaches.
  • Oversee audit execution, quality assurance, and reporting for defensible conclusions.
  • Develop and implement the annual risk-based audit plan.
  • Coordinate with Manager, Trust Safety on complex, high-risk matters.
  • Manage external audit resources, scope, timelines, and value for money.
  • Prepare clear reports and briefing materials for management and regulators.
  • Foster stakeholder relationships across internal teams and external professionals.
