Job summary

Scotiabank is seeking an Audit Manager in Compliance and Legal to oversee global audit programs and strengthen internal controls across the enterprise. You will lead audit testing, manage stakeholder discussions, and ensure high-quality evidence supports findings.

In this role you will champion a client-focused culture, stay informed on regulatory changes, and guide teams in applying professional auditing standards while upholding Scotiabank's governance framework.

Title: Audit Manager, Compliance and Legal

As the 3rd Line of Defence, Internal Audit provides enterprise-wide, independent, and objective assurance over the design and operations of the Bank’s internal controls, risk management and governance processes. The Audit Manager contributes to the overall success of the Audit Function in support of the Audit Department executing its global mandate, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.

Global Compliance & Legal audit portfolio includes: Global Compliance (2nd line), Legal Department, Corporate Secretary/Governance, and Corporate Security. The role will also support the Compliance & Legal/Governance Centres of Excellence (CoE) to help develop and maintain internal audit programs and standards, and advise on audits in these areas to support the global Audit Department.

Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
  • Support the Officer in Charge (OIC) with the execution for assigned audits. This includes completion of audit testing, discussions with management and documentation of work performed.
  • May act as Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of low to medium complexity for assigned audits.
  • Works with other audit teams as required.
  • Execute, plans and reports on the assigned audits. Obtains a thorough understanding of the business/unit/ process and associated risks, develops an appropriate risk-based audit approach, and schedules timing and resources.
  • Ensures audit results are gathered, determining the root cause of the problem and the associated impact. Drafts reports and issues. Presents audit results and findings for presentation to management.
  • Champion a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Ensure Scotiabank standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics are maintained in completion of all assignments.
  • Stay informed on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and industry trends. Conveys risk-related information to Officer-in-Charge or Audit Principal and senior management.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships to successfully carry out audit activities.
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Meet Department training requirements.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of compliance risks and processes, including staying abreast of key industry and regulatory changes. Supports identifying key systemic issues (arising from audits globally) and internal changes that will impact the annual audit plan and/or quarterly Audit Committee reporting.
  • Support the continued development of the CoE Program through the roll-out of a global audit program that ensures a consistent approach to audits and validation activities of regulatory compliance risk.

  • Working knowledge of the operations and regulatory environments for each unit as applicable.
  • Ability to work in high levels of ambiguity and in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Proficient at applying Scotiabank methodology and using risk-based auditing standards and practices.
  • Good analytical capabilities with demonstrated proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Co-Pilot, Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, etc.). Ability to use these tools to identify risks, trends, and control gaps, and to integrate data-driven insights into audit planning and execution.
  • Pro-active mindset and drives continuous improvement by challenging the status quo and applying best practices to enhance current processes and overall quality.
  • Ability to execute multiple projects at any given time.
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Good people management and coaching/development skills.
  • Curiosity mindset.
