Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking an Audio Typist to support clinical teams by delivering accurate transcription and management of patient records. The role operates Monday to Friday on a 26.95-hour per week schedule, with pro-rata salary and base location at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Key duties include transcribing outpatient dictations, maintaining patient data, and processing referrals.

Qualifications

  • Advanced keyboard skills and ability to produce accurate, high-speed transcription.
  • Proven proficiency in English and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience using clinical systems such as TrakCare and Winscribe, and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Scan, print and manage clinical documentation in line with departmental processes.
  • Process referrals via SCI Gateway and support wider administrative and health and safety responsibilities.

The Role

As an Audio Typist within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in supporting clinical teams by delivering an efficient and accurate transcription service. Working within Acute Services, you will contribute directly to patient care by ensuring timely communication through high-quality clinical documentation. Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Part-Time, Permanent

Base Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 26.95 hours per week

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transcribe dictation from outpatient clinics, discharge summaries and medical reports for internal and external use
  • Input and maintain accurate patient data on clinical systems to support follow-up care
  • File clinic correspondence via Winscribe into Clinical Portal, ensuring accurate electronic patient records
  • Meet quality standards and turnaround times for all transcription work
  • Provide telephone support within the department and communicate effectively with clinical staff
  • Scan, print and manage clinical documentation in line with departmental processes
  • Process referrals via SCI Gateway and support wider administrative and health and safety responsibilities
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • Advanced keyboard skills with the ability to produce accurate, high-speed transcription
  • Proven proficiency in the English language, along with knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and clinical systems such as TrakCare, Winscribe or similar
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a professional and adaptable approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements, including GDPR and handling sensitive patient information
