Job summary

TD Bank Group in Toronto, Ontario is seeking an experienced application developer to work on mainframe-based loan and mortgage systems. You will analyze business requirements, develop new modules, and test components end-to-end while aligning with architectural standards.

The role requires expertise in COBOL, SQL, JCL, SAS, and DB2/IMS, with 1–3 years in development teams. You will collaborate with business users, participate in Agile processes, and contribute to production support and incidents.

Qualifications

  • Expert COBOL, SQL, JCL and SAS programming capabilities.
  • Strong DB2 and IMS database knowledge.

  • Advanced to expert knowledge of design and development tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to derive system processes and business rules from existing code.
  • Advanced MS Excel for data analysis.
  • Experience with Agile, Jira & Confluence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with good presentation skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and influence decision-making, delivering results.
  • Ability to code, debug, research and solve development and production issues.
  • University/college degree or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new applications and perform unit and component testing in line with standards.
  • Provide code maintenance and support during testing cycles and post-production deployment.
  • Participate in review of peer code and contribute to reusable components.
  • Support incident management with impact assessment and communication.
  • Ensure design leverage reusable components with traceability to requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity and operational efficiency.

Job Description

Our Product Group technology team is accountable for the end-to-end technology solutions for the TD Loans and Mortgage applications. Our technology is primarily hosted on IBM mainframe system utilizing technology stack of Cobol, JCL, DB2, IMS, and SAS. Provides a broad range of system solutions development to business problems through the development and programming of applications / systems. Requires IBM Mainframe applications systems knowledge and business knowledge. Responsible for analyzing a broad range of business requirements, conducting program / system research and analysis to identify key components for solutions delivery and problem resolution Develop new applications and perform unit / component test for new application development initiatives aligned to business needs and in accordance with technology architecture standards Support business enquiries and business activities through execution of small enhancements and break / fix implementations (e.g. source code changes) Create and maintain quality code, ensure defect free programming consistent with standards; provide code maintenance and support during testing cycles and post-production deployment and participate in reviewing peer coding Participate in identifying and recommending development / testing solutions / tools in support of project / application objectives Completes unit and integration testing for conformance to standards and adherence to design specifications Provide technical expertise during incident management, analyze incident reports and outages, perform impact assessment for incidents and facilitate internal and external communication throughout incident resolution Continuously enhance knowledge / expertise in own area and keep current with leading-edge technologies, emerging trends/developments and grow knowledge of the business, applications, infrastructure, analytical tools and techniques Prioritize and manage own workload in order to deliver quality results and meet timelines as assigned Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance productivity, effectiveness and operational efficiency of the business unit and/or team Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business units Subject matter expert in several aspects of the business/technology and consults with clients and/or project teams Provide estimates for new projects and initiatives for the development / design component of the overall plan. Ensure design leverages existing reusable components and has traceability to business requirements and ensure new modules are designed with reusability as a key requirement. Support test phases with environment setup, test case preparation and defect remediation. Support deployment phase with implementation planning, verification and incident resolution. Off hour support for deployments. Some pager and/or on-call support.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience
  • Expert coding skills (ex. COBOL, SQL, JCL, SAS).
  • Expert database skills (ex. DB2, IMS)
  • 1-3 years experience in Application Development teams.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of application design and development tools and methodologies
  • Ability to derive system processes, impacts, business rules, from existing code base.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, esp. MS Excel for data analysis.
  • Experience with Agile methodology, Jira & Confluence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with good presentation skills.
  • Ability to identify and articulate problems, influence decision-making process as well as proven delivery of expected results.
  • Ability to code, debug, research, analyze and problem-solve development and production issues.
  • Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations University/college degree and/or equivalent work experience.
