Job summary

Sun Life Financial is seeking an Associate Software Engineer - .NET to own meaningful projects across our Platforms and Engineering group, delivering high-quality applications that support clients' financial security and wellbeing.

You will collaborate with designers, business analysts and testers to modernize legacy systems while ensuring security and performance in production. The role involves on-call duties and potential travel between Sun Life locations, with a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• 1 year of IT experience in Agile-based application development.
• Proficiency with C#, .NET, ASP.NET, REST API, SOAP-based web services.
• Proficiency with SQL and SQL Server; understanding relational databases.
• Familiarity with CI/DevOps tools (TFS, Git, Artifactory, NuGet) and unit test automation.
• Familiarity with GenAI and Copilot.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end solutions by collaborating with designers, business analysts, and testers to deliver high-quality applications.
• Modernize legacy systems by upgrading applications to current technologies.
• Bridge onshore and offshore teams to ensure excellence across development, testing and implementation.

What will you do?

• Own end-to-end solutions - Collaborate with designers, business analysts, and testing specialists to design and deliver high-quality applications that solve real client problems.
• Modernize legacy systems - Evaluate and upgrade existing applications to adopt current technologies and frameworks to reduce technical debt.
• Bridge teams seamlessly - Coordinate with onshore and offshore teams to ensure excellence across development, testing, and implementation.
• Champion quality and security - Embed information security standards into every solution you build while maintaining application performance and stability in production environments.
• Lead through problem-solving - Take ownership of incident analysis, resolution, and performance optimization; elevate strategically when needed.

What do you need to succeed?

Core Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year professional IT experience in Agile-based application development.
• Proficiency with C#, .NET, ASP.NET, REST API, SOAP-based web services.
• Proficiency with SQL, SQL Server knowledge, relational database concept.
• Familiarity with CI/DevOps tools (TFS, Git, Artifactory, NuGet) and unit test automation.
• Familiarity with modern development tools including GenAI and Copilot.

Bonus Qualifications:

• Financial services or insurance industry background.
• Experience with Java.

Additional Requirements:

• Participate in rotating on-call support for production environments.
• Participate in periodic weekend / after-hours work to support project implementations and system upgrades.
• Flexibility for occasional after-hours work and periodic travel between Sun Life locations.

Unique Requirements:

This role requires Reliability Status Clearance. In addition to a law enforcement inquiry and a credit check, as part of your application, the Government of Canada will ask if you lived or travelled outside of Canada for 6-consecutive months during the last 5 years, and you must account for all activities during this time.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
