POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Healthcare Operations Research and Systems Engineering. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. The successful candidate may be appointed as the Donna Jean Hewitt Rochon Chair in Managing Patient Pathways, for a five-year term.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Operations Management, or a closely related filed, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths . In particular, we seek candidates whose research focuses on the quantitative design, analysis, and optimization of healthcare delivery systems using operations research methods, including their integration with complementary approaches such as empirical methods, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, evidence of practical or policy impact in healthcare , presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, leverage opportunities to develop sustained partnerships with hospitals and health care systems in Ontario and beyond, and maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program with practical impact.
In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.
HIRING SALARY RANGE
The rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The upper end of the salary range for this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
