Job Summary

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

The Associate Physician Medical Lead is an exciting and new opportunity to provide support and leadership to the Associate Physician (AP) initiative within Fraser Health Authority, reporting directly to the VP Medicine. This role will work with the consultant, Medical Affairs to provide clinical expertise and support to the growing AP portfolio to ensure the quality of accredited programs are following the CPSBC’s requirements and standards, reviewing accreditation/re-accreditation/program change request applications, and acting as the co-chair of the AP Advisory Committee meetings. The AP Medical Lead will also be responsible for addressing all quality assurance concerns arising with employed Associate Physicians.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership to the accredited programs on the progression, consistency, and quality of the AP programs across our region.
  2. Responsible for the oversight and operation of AP programs in accordance with the provincial standards, the medical staff governance structures, and consistent with the spirit and intent of the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules.
  3. Collaborate with the consultant, Medical Affairs on the planning and development of new programs, initial and ongoing program accreditation, and maintenance.
  4. Collaborate with the consultant, Medical Affairs, and partners to develop and implement orientation programs that ensure smooth integration of APs into their clinical roles and ensure APs are familiar with organizational policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  5. Collaborate with quality assurance teams to review AP performance and implement improvement initiatives where needed.
  6. Promote patient safety and evidence-based care across all AP clinical activities.
  7. Ensure programs are operating in accordance with the Fraser Health framework, CPSBC requirements, and provincial standards.
  8. Participate in provincial and regional AP committees and working groups.
  9. Act as the Co-Chair of Fraser Health’s monthly AP Advisory Committee Meetings.
  10. Liaise with the consultant, Medical Affairs as the primary point of contact for CPSBC, HEABC, and the Ministry of Health.
  11. Serve as a key advisor for decision making and strategic planning for quality improvement and quality assurance.
  12. Proactively identify and address practice concerns raised by APs, colleagues, or other partners, encouraging a collaborative approach focused on the promotion of best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and professional support.
  13. Assist APs with day-to-day clinical practice needs, fostering a positive work environment.

This is a 0.2 FTE position for a two (2) year term with the possibility of renewal. Remuneration is based on the Medical Leadership Compensation Framework.

Qualifications/Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience

  • Licensed Physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience within the Health Authority or similar healthcare setting.
  • Experience in providing leadership and/or mentorship.
  • Experience in onboarding or training to medical staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working with Associate Physicians or medical learners.
  • Experience training or practicing internationally is an asset.
