Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director, Strategy (Ecommerce) (Performance Marketing) based in Canada.

Take the lead in shaping ecommerce growth strategies for ambitious direct-to-consumer (DTC) and omnichannel consumer brands.
In this senior leadership role, you will drive full-funnel performance marketing strategies that connect paid media investments to profitable, sustainable business growth.
You will oversee complex, high-spend campaigns across multiple digital channels while building strong client partnerships and delivering measurable commercial results.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will translate performance data, customer insights, and market trends into actionable growth strategies.
You will lead and develop a team of experienced marketers, strengthening their capabilities and raising the standard of strategic execution.
As part of a collaborative, remote-first environment, you will also help shape the evolution of performance marketing services, processes, and best practices.

Accountabilities
  • Lead performance marketing strategy: Own the strategic direction of large-scale, full-funnel ecommerce campaigns across platforms such as Meta, Google Search, YouTube, TikTok, and programmatic advertising, ensuring alignment with business objectives and long-term growth targets.
  • Drive profitable ecommerce growth: Help clients optimize customer acquisition costs (CAC), return on advertising spend (ROAS), marketing efficiency ratio (MER), incremental revenue, customer lifetime value, and profitability while balancing growth with margin sustainability.
  • Manage strategic client relationships: Serve as the senior strategic partner for complex, high-value accounts, working directly with executive stakeholders to understand business challenges, recommend solutions, communicate results, and strengthen long-term client retention.
  • Optimize media investment and performance: Oversee forecasting, budget pacing, campaign performance, creative testing, shopping feeds, and measurement strategies to maximize the effectiveness of advertising investments.
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams: Manage and mentor a team of 15 or more professionals across multiple levels, including managers, establishing clear expectations, performance standards, and development opportunities that improve team effectiveness.
  • Strengthen analytical decision-making: Develop and evolve reporting frameworks, dashboards, and measurement processes that provide actionable insights, support executive-level communication, and improve accountability against business KPIs.
  • Improve operational excellence: Identify and implement department-wide initiatives, workflows, and processes that enhance delivery consistency, campaign effectiveness, team productivity, and overall service quality.
  • Shape performance marketing strategy and services: Partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and execute short- and long-term roadmaps, evolve service offerings, and identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
  • Navigate complex business challenges: Lead high-stakes client discussions, resolve performance issues, manage competing priorities, and build stakeholder alignment through clear communication and commercially grounded recommendations.
  • Promote continuous learning: Stay informed about emerging performance marketing trends, platform developments, measurement methodologies, and industry best practices to continually improve client outcomes and internal expertise.
Requirements
  • Extensive performance marketing experience: Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, multi-channel, full-funnel performance marketing programs, including campaigns with monthly advertising spend exceeding USD $1 million.
  • Senior people leadership: Proven experience managing and developing teams of 15 or more professionals across multiple levels, including managers, with responsibility for team performance, coaching, development, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ecommerce and commercial expertise: Strong understanding of DTC and omnichannel ecommerce business models, with the ability to connect paid media strategy to revenue growth, customer acquisition, lifetime value, incremental performance, and profitability.
  • Multi-platform advertising knowledge: Extensive experience overseeing performance marketing across channels such as Meta, Google Search, YouTube, TikTok, and programmatic advertising, including hands‑on understanding of campaign execution and optimization.
  • Advanced analytics and reporting: Experience designing and improving performance dashboards and reporting systems using tools such as Looker, Google Sheets, Excel, or Tableau, with a focus on actionable insights and executive-level decision‑making.
  • Strategic planning and measurement: Demonstrated ability to lead forecasting, budget pacing, performance measurement, and strategic planning across complex accounts and diverse business models.
  • Executive stakeholder management: Strong experience managing relationships with senior and C‑suite stakeholders, navigating high‑pressure situations, presenting strategic recommendations, and securing alignment around business priorities.
  • Process improvement and operational leadership: A track record of implementing initiatives adopted at the department or company level to improve performance standards, operational consistency, and team effectiveness.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to translate complex performance data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Leadership mindset: A collaborative, accountable, and growth‑oriented approach, with the ability to develop talent, influence teams, and balance strategic leadership with hands‑on problem‑solving.
